How To Face The Challenges Of Summer Break

Summer Break means there will be a TON of opportunities for fun in the sun, but that doesn’t mean each opportunity will align with your values.

You may face pressure to conform to social norms, including using substances. It may seem like everyone around you is experimenting with drugs or alcohol, but the reality is that MOST Stevenson students choose to NOT use.

Consider your health, family, school and goals, as well as these tips for building your summer plans:

LET YOUR VALUES SHINE: Share your values and reasons for choosing a substance-free life with your friends. Caring about you also means respecting what matters to you.

MAKE YOUR OWN WAVES: Ask your parents to host a small pool party or backyard picnic for you and your friends. Planning the party allows you to set the substance-free norm more easily while also having control over the guest list.

AVOID PEER PRESSURE: Do you know what you’d say if someone offers you alcohol or drugs? Practice how you’d respond before it happens. Don’t wait until you’re pressured to know how to stand up for yourself.

Summer is a time to rest, recharge, and create fun memories. Empower yourself and others to make your Summer Break amazing AND safe.
