Improv On Friday Had A Western Flair

The Failed Presidential Candidates put together a knee-slappin’ Western-themed comedy on Friday in the West Auditorium.

See Stevenson’s Artists Of The Future!
Consortium ArtFest TODAY

It’s a tradition four-plus decades strong: the 43rd Annual Consortium ArtFest.

This art show, held from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. TODAY in the Fieldhouse, is for Stevenson’s second-semester art students as well as selected students from Stevenson’s Kindergarten through Eighth Grade Consortium Schools. This collaborative event is a favorite among Stevenson students, district schools, teachers, and the larger community.

Stevenson teachers are encouraged to bring their students to view the show, which will re-open again TONIGHT from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. for a reception.

The participating Consortium Schools include: Laura B. Sprague Elementary School, Half Day School, Daniel Wright Junior High, Tripp Elementary School, Pritchett Elementary School, Aptakisic Junior High School, Meridian School, Fremont Middle School, Fremont Intermediate School, Fremont Elementary School, Twin Groves Middle School, Woodlawn Middle School, West Oak Intermediate School, Diamond Lake School, West Oak Middle School, Country Meadows Elementary School, Prairie Elementary School, Ivy Hall Elementary School and Kildeer Countryside Elementary School.

There is also a fundraising arm to this event: The Empty Bowls Project. 

Students from Ceramics classes this school year have donated wheel-thrown or hand-built ceramic bowls that will be sold for $5 each during the Reception. All proceeds will go to the Vernon Township Food Pantry.

TOMORROW: Pops Concert Promises Film And Broadway FUN!

All of the curricular orchestra classes ~ the Patriot, Symphonic, Concert and Stevenson Orchestra ~ are ready to sound off at the Orchestra Pops Concert, which will feature light-hearted and fun favorite numbers from classic films and Broadway.

The concert is slated for a 7 p.m. start TOMORROW in the Performing Arts Center and also includes a special guest appearance from select members of the Stevenson Honor Band Program.

There will also be a Flower Fundraiser at the concert, which is not a ticketed event. The concert can also be viewed via Vimeo.

The final regular week of the 2022-23 school year is this week, but there will be nothing “regular” about it.

It’s “Spring Fling Spirit Week,” with fun themes each day capped by a Friday Fun Day that includes a “Treat Day,” an afternoon assembly and the after-school, annual “Spring Fling” event featuring outdoor games and fun!

Here are the theme days for the remainder of the week.

Here’s what you need to know:

Due to the number of non-attendance days this school year, Final Experience will be a little different this spring to accommodate this year’s commencement ceremony on Friday, May 26.

If you are submitting any more evidence for this semester’s Period 5, 1, 7 and 8 classes, you should go to the PWC Main Entrance on Wednesday, May 24 (see schedule above). Please speak with your teachers to see if you need to submit more evidence. Once all Final Experiences are completed, seniors will be released to go home.

Seniors who are submitting any more evidence for this semester’s Period 6, 2, 3 and 4 classes will be expected to report to their normal classrooms according to the Final Experience schedule on Thursday, May 25.

SAY CHEESE! ID Photo Shoots For Next Year Start TODAY!

Freshmen, Sophomore and Juniors will be getting their 2023-24 ID Photos for next year taken this week.

Students will be asked to make their way to the Sportscenter or Fieldhouse during their designated times. *Only photos will be taken during this time. 2023-24 ID cards will be distributed at a later date.*

FRESHMEN will be brought through during their Advisory Period. Please contact your advisories to confirm the dates and times you will be attending.

SOPHOMORES and JUNIORS will be brought through at the beginning of their PE class. Please, contact your PE teacher to confirm the day and time they have scheduled for your class.

Should students miss the designated times with their Advisory or PE class, they are able to come through the Sportscenter of Fieldhouse during any of the other following times as long as it does not conflict with their academic schedule.

TODAY: End-Of-Year Tournament For Video Game Club


The Video Game Club has a big end-of-the-year Super Smash Brothers Ultimate tournament TODAY called the “Cosmic Brownie Cup.”

This is a free-entry tournament open to all students at Stevenson, regardless of prior skill level, and everyone who enters will be awarded with at least one Cosmic Brownie.


The tournament starts at 3:30 p.m. in Room 1204.

MOD Pizza Fundraiser: Support The Band With A Slice!

The Stevenson Band is doing at fundraiser at MOD Pizza in Buffalo Grove TOMORROW.

Use the code MODGIVES20 and 20 percent of proceeds will be donated to the Band Program.

Bring In Clothing Donations: Help Cradles To Crayons!

Stevenson’s National Honor Society is teaming with Cradles To Crayons to help low-income families in the area with basic clothing and footwear needs.

There will be a Clothing Drive in support of the Cradles mission running all THIS WEEK on campus!

The NHS is asking students to bring in clothing donations (sizes 0T-Adult Medium) and drop them in the donation boxes that will be located at school entrances.

As an added bonus, when you donate, you will be able to scan a QR code that will enter you into a raffle. The winner(s) will receive a basket worth $50!

Cradles To Crayons is an organization committed to helping families in low-income and poverty situations through donations of clothing and shoes, as well as other basic needs items, to children from birth through age 12. By providing these items, Cradles to Crayons enables children to participate more fully in school and life activities while also relieving their parents’ stress.

ACADEMICS
NOW THROUGH JUNE 30: Apply for these post-secondary scholarships with deadlines ranging from now through June 30.

ONGOING ~ Juniors To-Do’s: Counselors recently sent Juniors an e-mail that includes a checklist of things to do starting now and through the summer as the idea of college and applications becomes more of a reality. Also, there’s a great scholarship opportunity for juniors that includes four years of tuition and expenses to the University of North Carolina.

CLUBS
NOW THROUGH END OF SCHOOL YEAR ~ Shoe Donations: The Green Team and SWALCO (Solid Waste Agency of Lake County) have partnered to keep unwanted footwear out of landfills. The Green Team will take shoes in ANY condition, whether they are for athletics, formalwear, etc. A donation box is at the Point.

ONGOING ~ TEDx Board Applications: Want to be involved in TEDx next year as a member of the TEDx Board? If you are motivated and dedicated and would be committed to the TEDx mission of spreading ideas and inspiring change, consider applying to be on the TEDx Board next year. Apply here!

THROUGH FRIDAY ~ Music Production Showcase Fundraiser: Music Production 2 students engaged in an activist songwriting project centered around topics that are important to them. FRIDAY AND SATURDAY ~ Boys Tennis IHSA Sectional: The Patriots will be hosting the IHSA Sectional this weekend: Friday (11 a.m.) and Saturday (9 a.m.) at Vernon Hills Athletic Complex. There is no fee to attend. 

MAY 22 ~ Spring Sports Awards: Mark your calendars, Spring Sports Awards Night will be here before you know it! Dress to impress for the event, which is at 7 p.m. on Monday, May 22 in the Sportscenter.

Allied Soccer: Stevenson ended the season on a high note, fighting hard against Warren to win its final game of the season. Baseball: 
Stevenson (25-7, 11-2) defeated Libertyville 3-1 in which pitching was strong for both teams. Colin Schmitke got things moving in the second inning on a single, scoring 2 runs. Brett Gaynor was credited with the victory lasting four innings, allowing 4 hits and 1 run while striking out 4 batters and walking one. Michael Belbot, Frank Costabile and Nick Rayyan all put in the work in relief. Costabile, Carson Kaye, Schmitke, Takuma SakamotoChris Iannuzzi, Belbot and Brandon Schultz each collected 1 hit. Next up is a road game against Libertyville at 4:45 p.m. today.

Boys Volleyball: The Patriots (25-9, 6-0) defeated Grant on Senior Night, 25-15, 25-19. Three setters took control last night. David WangTony Hwang and James Angelos combined for 51 attempts, 27 assists, 10 kills and 1 ace. Dylan Lee led the way in digs for Stevenson with a total of 4. Ramsey Engel added 4 kills, 3 block assists and 3 digs on the night. Seniors San Nuudel and Yugank Arora each added 3 kills apiece. Next up for the Patriots is a conference matchup with Libertyville for the North Suburban Conference title at 6 p.m. on Wednesday in the Sportscenter. 


Girls Softball: 
Stevenson (12-9-1, 8-5) traveled to Waukegan and won, 6-1. Ava Potempa pitched seven innings, striking out 14 batters and giving up only 1 hit. Abbie Lewis led the team at the plate going 3-for-4 with 1 double and 2 singles. Michaela Duffy followed close behind with 2 hits for the day. Next up for Stevenson is a conference matchup at Libertyville at 4:45 p.m. today.

Boys Lacrosse: The Patriots (6-14, 1-4) hosted Highland Park and won their final regular season game, 11-6. The state series begins tomorrow and Stevenson will host Buffalo Grove at 5 p.m.

Sports Reminders

NOW THROUGH MAY 24 ~ NEW…PE LOCKERS: All Physical Welfare lockers must be cleaned out by the end of the last regular school day, MAY 24.  Any items left in lockers will be donated to local charities.

ONGOING ~ Register For Summer Sports Camp: For freshmen through seniors. Summer Sports Camp brochure, which is also located on the athletics webpage. Register here for Summer Sports Camp. Register early to make sure you are cleared to participate on the first day of camp.

ONGOING ~ Register For Girls Flag Football: Stevenson will be offering Girls Flag Football in the Fall of 2023. This is a COMPETITIVE program! Practices will take place on Mondays and Wednesdays. JULY 17 ~ Baseball Golf Outing: The Stevenson Baseball Team is hosting a Golf Outing on Monday, July 17 at the Buffalo Grove Golf Course, starting at 9 a.m. Tickets can be purchased HERE to play in a foursome or to sponsor a hole. All proceeds will go to the Stevenson Baseball Program.
