Green Team Is The Dream Team At Envirothon!
With 419 points out of a possible 540, members of Stevenson’s Green Team flexed their collective muscle last week by winning both the Lake County Division as well as the overall Regional championship at the Northeastern Illinois Regional Envirothon Competition last week at Danada House in Wheaton.
Select students from the Green Team combined to compete in curriculum with hands-on field experiences and were tested on a range of environmental topics. This year’s topics were: Aquatics, Forestry, Soils, Wildlife and “Adapting To Climate Change.”
Stevenson’s team included Ishaan Bhonagiri, Angela Guo, Noah Kang, Shourya Mehta, Alexandra Powers and Angela Wang. Their presentation titled “Rain, Rain, Go Away, Come Again Another Day” received the highest score out of all 19 competing teams. Scores were determined from a combination of written team tests and an oral presentation.
Members of this team will be advancing to the Illinois Envirothon Competition, the equivalent to the Illinois State Finals, on May 3 and May 4 in downstate Monticello.
The winning Illinois team will represent the state of Illinois at the Canon Envirothon in New Brunswick, Canada at the end of July. The Canon Envirothon is the largest environmental competition in North America.
