More Science REACH News!
State Qualifiers And Distinguished Winners Announced
As reported in the Daily Digest on Thursday, Stevenson’s Science REACH Club rolled up 23 state qualifiers ~ more than any other high school ~ at last weekend’s Illinois Junior Academy of Science Poster Region 6 Session at Niles North High School.
We want to give a shout out to all of those state qualifiers as well as to the students who won Special Awards in 11 categories.

Rolling To A Regional Title: Scholastic Bowl Team Eyeing Nationals Taking down rivals Mundelein, Libertyville and Vernon Hills along the way, Stevenson’s Scholastic Bowl Team cruised to an IHSA regional championship recently at Vernon Hills High School. The Patriots were led by 2023 All-Sectional Team Member Rishabh Wuppalapati. The team now turns its attention to national competitions at the end of the school year. Stevenson Runs Away With Long List Of Awards At Journalism Contest
Budding journalists from Stevenson rolled up 18 awards spanning categories from writing to cartooning and page design in the IWPA 2023 High School Communications Contest.
Entries that earned First Place designations are forwarded to the National Federation of Press Women’s nationwide contest and will be entered into its national competition.

Key Club Takes A First Place At Springfield Leadership Conference
At Key Club’s District Leadership Convention last weekend in Springfield, club members had the chance to meet with other Key Clubbers from all over Illinois and Eastern Iowa. They learned about many different opportunities for service and leadership.
Sophomores Sahil Velagapudi, Dustin Zhao and Eshaam Bhattad won first place in the Oratorical Competition after sharing the impact of Key Club as people from immigrant backgrounds.

SUPER MONDAY: Student Government Elections During Activity Period
Get out and vote MONDAY during the Activity Period!
Student government elections will take place during this time, but because elections are hosted over several days, clubs are able to meet during this time. No other group guidance will occur during this Activity Period.
Each student will be emailed a ballot Monday morning to cast their votes. They can proceed to their clubs if applicable. The candidates will be shown on the monitors during Activity Period.
Voting will take place from Monday through Wednesday at Midnight.

Attention Seniors: Grad Announcements Are HERE…On TUESDAY!
Order Graduation announcements? Time to pick them up.
Jostens will be on campus on TUESDAY (March 21) to hand out Graduation Announcements to anyone who ordered them.
The distribution, which will take place from fourth-period lunch through 4 p.m. in the Wood Commons near the Patriot School Store, includes any extra items that students/families ordered, such as announcements, merchandise, frames, etc.
Stevenson’s Got Sole: Donate Your Used Shoes Today! Don’t throw away those old shoes! The Green Team and SWALCO (Solid Waste Agency of Lake County) have partnered to keep unwanted footwear out of landfills, where almost 85 percent of shoes end up. Instead, those shoes can be reused or recycled. The Green Team will take shoes in ANY condition, whether they are for athletics, formalwear, etc. Collection continues NOW through the END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR in the donation box at the Point, across from the Security Desk. Two EPIC Events Coming Up, First One TODAY After School
EPIC (Everlasting Promise in Christ) is hosting two events at Stevenson, starting with TODAY’s event presented by Mike Phillips, from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the Recital Hall (Room 4100).
There is also another EPIC event by Noah Hoech, coming up next week on Thursday (Mar. 23) from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the Recital Hall (Room 4100). For questions about these events, please reach out to Matt Hodge.

MARCH 22 ~ Applications Due For Senior Service Recognition: Senior Service Recognition was conceived to showcase outstanding community service efforts by Stevenson students. Online applications are due for seniors on March. 22. Visit this link for the online application. MAY 15 ~ Odyssey App/Rec Forms Due: The Fine Arts Division is accepting applications and recommendations for Odyssey 2024 artists and workshop ideas. Students, faculty and staff may use the Odyssey Form to suggest artists and submit workshop ideas for Odyssey, which will run Feb. 13-14, 2024.
CLUBS
NOW THROUGH APRIL ~ Project Cutlery: Green Team is concerned about plastic utensil use at Stevenson. The club has organized a raffle running now through April for students who submit a photo of the reusable utensil they use at Stevenson through this form. Those submissions are entered for a chance to WIN a solar-powered portable charger! There will be THREE randomly selected winners who will be notified in April. Submitted photos MUST show use AT STEVENSON in order to be considered.
MARCH 22 ~ Submissions For Wit Due: The WIT Staff is calling for submissions to this year’s magazine! The deadline for submissions is March 22. Please e-mail Mr. Zagorski at rzagorski.d125.org with any questions.
MARCH 25 ~ Peer Helper Applications Due: Apply to be a Peer Helper for the 2023-24 school year and help fellow Stevenson students better enjoy their high school experience. Applications are due MARCH 25. If you are interested in becoming a part of a very exciting and challenging program, please complete an online application.

MONDAY ~ One Act Plays Auditions: Auditions for the One Act Plays will be held after school on Monday (March 20). To audition, prepare a 30-second monologue, as well as 30 seconds of a song if you are auditioning for a musical. Learn more and sign up here. Any questions? SUNDAY, MARCH 26 ~ Deadline For Spirit T-Shirt Contest Submissions: The Patriot School Store needs help designing a new Stevenson Spirit Wear T-shirt! One entry per student, black or white t-shirt only, front design only. Designs are subject to modifications by the vendor. Please submit your design in PDF format to mshahinian@d125.org by Sunday, March 26.
APRIL 3 ~ Prom Ticket Deadline: PROM tickets are officially on sale! Please use this link to purchase your tickets, which are $95 apiece and will be on sale until APRIL 3. Prom will be held on APRIL 15 at the Hyatt Regency O’Hare Hotel.
NOTE: Just a friendly reminder to get ahead of the curve and get your PROM Guest Forms turned in. If you want to attend Prom with a guest who does not go to Stevenson, you MUST fill out the guest form by MARCH 28.

MARCH 28 ~ Prom Guest Form Deadline: If you want to attend Prom on April 15 with a guest who does not go to Stevenson, you MUST fill out the guest form by MARCH 28.
MARCH 31 ~ Party Time, Seniors…Early-Bird Ticket Deadline: Tickets for the “The Senior Class Party,” which is a two-hour boat cruise on Lake Michigan May 25, are available. The early-bird price for tickets ($40 apiece) is good until MARCH 31, and after that tickets will increase to $45 apiece. To complete the transaction, put your Student ID in the Promo Code. Upcoming Sports Events SATURDAY ~ Boys Basketball: David Sulnius and Brandon Sorokin will be participating in the Lake County All-Star Game at the College of Lake County at 5 p.m. on Saturday. Come out and cheer on your Patriots! |
Sports Results
Badminton: Stevenson (1-0) traveled to Lake Forest for its first conference matchup, winning all 18 matches in both doubles and singles.
Girls Lacrosse: The Patriots won their first game of the season, 9-4. Goalie Megan Randol had a first-half shutout.
Girls Water Polo: The Patriots (4-0) jumped out to an 11-0 lead, ultimately defeating Fenwick, 13-4. Katie Delaney had 4 blocked shots and Em Barron had 2 blocked shots in goal. Becca Stone had 4 steals with 2 assists. Olivia Spieth and Camila Maya had 2 assists apiece, with Maya adding 5 goals. Emily Headley and Olivia Baczek contributed 2 goals. Next up is Loyola at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
Boys Lacrosse: The Patriots lost their opening matchup of the season to a tough New Trier team, 16-3. The game was tight early (3-2) with a goal from Josh Lee, on an assist from Zaine Clemons, and a second goal from Aarav Patel. But New Trier then pulled away. Andrew Kaplan added the third goal for the Patriots. Chase Anders helped set the tone on defense with his physicality and Sanshray Ravinutala kept the score close with 11 saves in net. The Patriots will hit the road and take on Fremd at 11:45 a.m. tomorrow.
