Stevenson Rolls Up The KMs For Kenya!

Nearly 668 miles…(or 1,075 kilometers!)! That’s how far Stevenson students either walked or ran over the weekend as part of National Honor Society’s “Kilometers For Kenya” fundraiser.

First place went to Team “Sweaty Dumplings,” which included: Andrew Zhang, Alex Chang, Alex Xie, Bilegdemberel Batsaikhan, Jacob De Guzman, Shidong Yan and Stella Plendl.

“The Bulls That Dream” took second place and “Endurance Gang” finished in third place. 

The total raised prior to event was $5,691 by teams and $1,262 from local partners (Pure Barre Vernon Hills, Club Pilates, Deerfields Bakery, Bearology).

The winning fundraising team will be announced via the NHS Facebook Page later this week since donations are still coming in. In fact, it’s not too late to donate using the school store link! Please feel free to continue to donate.

Blood Drive A Huge Success!

Nearly 100 students and faculty members signed up for last Friday’s Spring Blood Drive, that was hosted by the National Honor Society in honor of student Jake Kingan.

Approximately 50 pints of blood were collected, which can help as many as 150 people!

TICKET TIME! Prom Tickets On Sale NOW!

It won’t be long now! PROM IS IN 32 DAYS…and tickets are officially on sale!

Travel The World With Stevenson! Required Zoom THURSDAY! For those adventurers who would like to see new places and discover new cultures, Stevenson has a cool international travel program available to students. Travel opportunities for 2024 include: the Dominican Republic, Japan, Iceland and Europe! To learn more about the program and to register, interested families must attend a Zoom meeting at 6:30 p.m. on THURSDAY. NOTE: Families MUST register here in advance to receive the Zoom link.

Focus On Politics: Check Out PAC’s Campaign Fair TODAY! Local candidates running for office throughout the community in the election on April 4 will be coming to Stevenson for TODAY’S Campaign Fair, hosted by the Political Action Club. Candidates will talk about the functions of local government and their visions for the elected positions for which they are running. The Fair is open to ALL STUDENTS AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS and will take place from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in Room 2104.

Calling All Fashion-Forward Patriots! Fashion Show Meeting TOMORROW! The 2023 Fashion Show Leadership Team is ready to start planning for the upcoming Fashion Show. Do you want to be a part of it? There will be a volunteer and model meeting at 3:30 p.m. TOMORROW  in Room 1612. The show needs students who are willing to model, do hair and make-up and volunteer for hospitality, photography, staging and more! The show is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 2 in the Performing Arts Center. This event is organized and planned by Stevenson students and the members of the Stevenson Styler Fashion Club. The show also operates as a charity event, raising money for Dress For Success, an organization that provides education, job support and professional clothing for underserved women in the Chicagoland area. CLC Workshop Dates Coming Up; Starting THURSDAY Seniors: The College Career Center is hosting a series of College of Lake County Workshops throughout the Spring Semester.  A reminder to those who have already applied and been accepted…here are a few important dates coming up: THURSDAY ~ English Placement Exam: 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon (the exam takes about 45 minutes to complete) ~ Room 1313 March 23 ~ Math Placement Exam: 8:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. (the exam takes most students 1 to 2 hours to complete) ~ Room 1313 April 13 ~ New Student Orientation at SHS: All school periods in the CCC

Get Ready For One Act Auditions: Next Week

Auditions for the One Act Plays will be held after school next Monday (March 20).

This year there will be six entirely student-written, directed and designed plays and musicals. Each play rehearses only two to three days each week in April, and there are no cuts for this production. Everyone who auditions will be cast!

To audition, prepare a 30-second monologue, as well as 30 seconds of a song if you are auditioning for a musical. Learn more and sign up here.

Design The New Spirit Wear T-Shirt: Deadline March 26! Are you artistic? Do you have a cool, Stevenson-themed design in mind? Now’s your chance to have your design plastered all over T-shirts throughout school! The Patriot School Store needs help designing a new Stevenson Spirit Wear T-shirt! Submit a design for the 2023 Spirit Wear T-Shirt Contest! There will be two rounds of voting. In the first round, all submissions will be voted on by Stevenson students, faculty and staff. In the second round, the top two designs will face-off for a final vote. The winning T-shirt design will be available for purchase in the Patriot School Store. The winner will receive their T-shirt FREE! Rules: One entry per student, black or white t-shirt only, front design only. Designs are subject to modifications by the vendor. Please submit your design in PDF format to mshahinian@d125.org by Sunday, March 26.

New Scholarship Opportunity Available! Deadline April 1 The Buffalo Grove Garden Club is offering a scholarship, up to $2,000, to an individual student within Buffalo Grove and the surrounding area who is in good standing in the following fields of study: Agriculture, Botany, Environmental Law, Environmental Science/Engineering, Horticulture or a related field. TOMORROW ~ CLC Field Trip: Juniors and Seniors interested in visiting the College of Lake County are encouraged to pick up field trip permission slips in the College Career Center for a second opportunity to visit the CLC Grayslake and Southlake Campuses on TOMORROW.

TOMORROW ~ Applications Due For LAW DAY and TRAUMA CENTER DAY: Stevenson will be participating in both Lake County Law Day and Advocate Condell Trauma Center Day next month and applications to participate are due on TOMORROW. Lake County Law Day will be held from 8:15 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, April 21 at the Lake County Court House. NOW THROUGH APRIL ~ Project Cutlery: Green Team is concerned about plastic utensil use at Stevenson. The club has organized a raffle running now through April for students who submit a photo of the reusable utensil they use at Stevenson through this form. Those submissions are entered for a chance to WIN a solar-powered portable charger! There will be THREE randomly selected winners who will be notified in April. Submitted photos MUST show use AT STEVENSON in order to be considered.

MARCH 22 ~ Submissions For Wit Due: The WIT Staff is calling for submissions to this year’s magazine! The deadline for submissions is March 22. Please e-mail Mr. Zagorski at rzagorski.d125.org with any questions.

Sports Notes Boys Hockey: Davis Jegers was named to the Blackhawks Alumni Team for the 2022-23 season. He was chosen based on his ice skills, passion for the game, and his dedication and leadership on and off the ice. In addition, Tom Wood was named the High School Coach of the Year. The Chicago Blackhawk Alumni Association honors and recognizes individuals and groups who have selflessly given of themselves in order to further enhance the lives of others and the sport of hockey. Boys Basketball: David Sulnius and Brandon Sorokin will be participating in the Lake County All-Star Game at the College of Lake County at 5 p.m. on Saturday. Congratulations, Patriots!

TOMORROW ~ Deadline For Athletic Hall Of Fame Nominations: Nominations for the Stevenson Athletics Hall of Fame are now being accepted.  Nominate an athlete, coach, staff member or supporter who through their commitment, sacrifice, and dedication to the Stevenson Athletic Program have brought pride and distinction to our school community. Deadline to submit is TOMORROW. Nomination Form TOMORROW ~ Be The Best You Can Be: Andy Isaacson will discuss ways to “Be The Best Athlete You Can Be” in his presentation on TOMORROW in the RECITAL HALL (Room 4100) during the lunch periods (4, 5 and 6). Bring your lunch and the athletic department will provide dessert! THURSDAY ~ Mandatory Student-Athlete Meeting: If you have not attended the mandatory student-athlete meeting, there is one on THURSDAY. The meeting will run from 9:45 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. and is in the LITTLE THEATER.
