State Champions GALORE! HOSA Runs Up 24 State Champions;
A Total Of 130 Stevenson Students Recognized!
Members of Stevenson’s HOSA Club (Future Health Professionals) flexed their collective muscle last week at the HOSA-Future Health Professional State Competition in Springfield.
There were 167 students who competed in more than 50 Health Science-related events against more than 1,700 competitors and Stevenson rolled up 24 state champions. Meanwhile, a total of 130 Stevenson students were recognized for their accomplishments as finalists, with some events that will be contested online still to be determined this week.
Stevenson boasted 67 students who placed in the Top 3 in their events, qualifying them for the International HOSA competition in June in Dallas.
Grace Huang was elected Illinois HOSA Treasurer and Eungyul Moon was elected Illinois HOSA Northern Illinois Vice President for 2023-2024.

It’s All Latin To Sankar: Senior Published In Prestigious Journal A fourth-year Latin student, Vaishnavi Sankar (pictured right) is certainly familiar with the phrase “carpe diem.” And to “seize the day” she did when she found out that one of her essays, an interpretation of Romulus, a legendary king of Rome, was going to be published. The essay made the March issue of Schola, a prestigious quarterly journal of humanities and social sciences essays written by high school students around the world. It’s the only international academic journal for high school students and its aim is to combine the publication of original, high-quality scholastic work with a systematic program of academic resources for students and teachers in secondary education. For Sankar, who is in AP Latin and has received recognition for her performance on the National Latin Exam, this was not even a class project, but more for the experience. She has served as First Vice President for the Illinois Junior Classical League and is a member of Stevenson’s Certamen team as well. Sankar also is a Peer Tutor, and has worked with Dr. Krishni Burns of UIC on a digital library project called “Calliope’s Library.” |
