Science Olympiad Takes First Place At UPenn Invitational

Stevenson’s Science Olympiad Team brought home the first-place trophy from the University of Pennsylvania Invitational held in Philadelphia.

A total of 60 teams from across the country competed, including eight Top 10 finalists in last year’s national competition. Overall, the Patriots won a total of 13 medals, including two first-place finishes.

The team will be traveling to the College of Lake County this weekend to compete in the regional tournament. Some of the award winners from UPenn include:

Patriots Debate Their Way To Success At State

At the Illinois Congressional Debate State Tournament, Stevenson debators Sahana Harini Raja and Eshaam Bhattad earned second place in their respective chambers.

The legislation written by Sarah Zhang, “A Bill To Fill Our Ballot,” was voted third place for top legislation.

Highlight Winter Band Concert!

Students from Honor, Advanced Symphonic, Symphonic, Concert and Freshman Bands cordially invite you to their two-night spectacular musical experience Wednesday and THURSDAY nights at 7 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center.

Field Trip! Visit College Of Lake County Next Week

Juniors and Seniors interested in visiting the College of Lake County are encouraged to pick up field trip permission slips in the College Career Center for a second opportunity to visit the CLC Grayslake and Southlake Campuses on Wednesday, March 15.

Students will be excused from Periods 1 through 5. The field trip will return to Stevenson at 12 noon for students to eat lunch. Tech Campus students will have time to eat before boarding their bus at 12:30 p.m. Teacher signatures are required for any missed class and parent/guardian signatures are also required on the permission slip.

Donate Blood…And Save Three Lives!

The National Honor Society Blood Drive will take place on FRIDAY in the Performing Arts Center from third through eighth period. All donors must be 17 years old, meet certain health requirements and register for an appointment slot.

Guest Speaker To Share About Career In Law On Wednesday

Judge Marnie Slavin will be on campus to speak to students on WEDNESDAY. This event will take place during all lunch periods in Room 2104. Students must sign-up here.

Sophomore, junior and senior students will learn why she chose law, what her typical day as a judge looks like and things to consider in high school/college if you’re interested in law.

TOMORROW ~ Deadline To Register For Second-Semester AP Tests: Students taking Second Semester (Only) Advanced Placement classes can register for their AP Tests that will take place in May. THURSDAY-FRIDAY ~ Illinois Science Assessment Testing: Testingwill take place THURSDAY and FRIDAY for all juniors. Families should have received an e-mail regarding room assignments and how to prepare for these exams last Thursday, March 2. 

FRIDAY ~ Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) Permission Due: This test will be offered to sophomores, juniors and seniors interested in the military next Thursday, March 16. This is a multiple-choice test that is used to determine the qualifications for enlistment in the United States Armed Forces. Students interested in taking this exam MUST return a signed permission slip to the College Career Center by FRIDAYClick here to learn more or sign the permission slip.

MARCH 16 ~ Travel With Stevenson Zoom, RE-SCHEDULED: There are 2024 travel opportunities available to the Dominican Republic, Japan, Iceland and Europe! MARCH 31 ~ Party Time, Seniors…Early-Bird Ticket Deadline: Tickets for the “The Senior Class Party,” which is a two-hour boat cruise on Lake Michigan May 25, are available.

TOMORROW: Boys Hockey State Semifinal: The Patriots will take on New Trier in the semifinals of the AHAI Boys Hockey State Tournament. Action begins at 6 p.m. TOMORROW at the Edge Ice Arena in Bensenville. Tickets can be purchased at the door.

Sports Results

Boys Hockey: The Patriots (43-15) played Glenbrook North on Saturday and won 8-5 advancing to the Final Four of the state tournament where they will take on New Trier at 6 p.m. on Wednesday at The Edge in Bensenville. The Patriots came out strong against Glenbrook North, scoring the only two goals in the first period by Bryan Wojdelko and Alan Wu. In the second period, Stevenson scored three goals on a power play (Zach Meyers, Tristan Caridei and Davis Jegers) and one short-handed goal by Jegers. The Patriots sealed the deal in the third period with goals from Jegers and Caridei, assisted by Spencer Harman and Andrew Lermer respectively. Jegers, pictured above right, broke the ALL-TIME RECORD for single-season goals scored, and currently sits at 77 goals for the season. The previous record was held by Jackson Leptich (2017-18) at 75 goals.

Boys Gymnastics: The Patriots had their first meet of the season on Thursday and placed second with a team score of 147.40, 6 points behind winner Hersey. Thor Mace led the way for Stevenson with a total score of 50.9, and a high score on the parallel bars of 9.0. Freshmen twins, Elliott and Eli Haskell, both had high marks throughout the meet, with Elliott scoring a team-high 9.4 on the vault and Eli with an 8.6. Rounding out the scorers on the night was Santi Gonzalez with a 43.65 and a team-high 9.0 on the floor exercise. Next up for Stevenson is a triangular at Mundelein at 6 p.m. on Thursday.
