FIRE-d Up To Help Kids “SPEAK UP!”

It was an important message, and members of Stevenson’s FIRE Club made sure to “speak up” about it.

FIRE Club visited Daniel Wright Junior High last week to teach sixth, seventh and eighth graders the “SPEAK UP” protocol used at Stevenson to combat hate speech and racism. This is the same protocol that the FIRE Club has taught to Stevenson Freshmen through the Freshmen Mentor Program for the past two years, and at Aptakisic Junior High.

The goal of this work is to provide students with a research-based strategy to create an inclusive learning community throughout the consortium schools and here at Stevenson.

FIRE members who led the learning at Daniel Wright and Aptakisic Junior High were: Rajan SukhatmeJacob ZerullSage ManningNawar MasoodMeara EvansTejas SukhatmeDavid SimmonsRayaan ShaikCatherine SobolIman Qazi and Olivia Lee.

Can’t Sleep? HOSA Members On A Mission To Help With Insomnia

Not getting enough sleep can be a real problem. Seniors Sohi Shah and Kayal Lavari want to help.

For their HOSA Community Awareness project, the two club members created the “The Insomnia Mission,” a program that provides strategies to conquer insomnia.

Shah and Lavari say that many teens today struggle with insomnia and are unaware of what it is and how it could affect them. Prior to winter break, the two posted flyers around school regarding the importance of their project. They also conducted an informational night for students.

The hope for Shah and Lavari is to continue conducting future events. Keep an eye out for more information by following “The Insomnia Mission” on Instagram: @theinsomniamission.
