Tour de Weights: Find Your Way Around The PWC Weight Room Want to lift weights, but aren’t exactly sure how to get started? Been wondering how to navigate the Weight Room at the Patriot Wellness Center…but feel a little overwhelmed? Coach Alex Stoller and the PWC Staff have you covered with all of the necessary 411 ~ both written and visual (see the video above)! The PWC Weight Room is where students can come to exercise and lift weights. At the PWC, that is called “Resistance Training,” which is beneficial for becoming more physically fit. Did you know that Resistance Training improves physical and mental function, gives the body energy, and helps you look and feel your best? Resistance Training is for everyone, and if you’re new to fitness or already along your fitness journey, the PWC Weight Room has plenty to offer. The PWC Weight Room includes: One-On-One Fitness Coaching (ask a Wellness Coach to sign up after school) More than 32 half-racks, barbells (two sizes) and plenty of weight plates Dumbbells up to 100 pounds and kettlebells up to 70 pounds Cable machines and much more state-of-the-art fitness equipment By lifting weights and gaining the benefits of Resistance Training, you will feel proud, improve your confidence, and enhance your sense of well-being. Annual Thespian Cabaret Performance Set For TOMORROW!
The cream of the crop Thespians at Stevenson who have been inducted into the Thespian National Honor Society will be performing in and producing the student-led “Annual Thespian Cabaret.”
The show, slated for a 7 p.m. start TOMORROW in the West Auditorium, will include acting, singing, dancing, musical instruments and improv!
Even the lighting design, sound and stage-managing are completely student-led.
The performance is free, with a suggested donation of $5, which will be collected for Special Gifts Theatre.
Address Change: Permanent Art Tour Moves To BG Fitness Center
Stevenson’s 2022-23 Permanent Art Tour has been on the move!
After being exhibited throughout the Fall at Lincolnshire Village Hall, Stevenson’s traveling student art work is now on display at the Buffalo Grove Fitness Center.
The tour will conclude with an exhibition at the Buffalo Grove Art Center in late Spring and Summer.
The touring artworks are part of Stevenson’s Permanent Art Collection. They were created by Seniors Melisa Demir and Milo Jablonski, sophomore Lada Volkov, and 2022 Alumni Maya Fergus, Arman Grigoryan, Nadia Lotfi, Christine Seo, Nicole Rose Vestidas and Nancy Zhang.
Each Spring, Stevenson High School Visual Arts Faculty selects exceptional student artwork to join Stevenson’s Permanent Art Collection. The practice of purchasing student artwork began in the 1980s and the collection now comprises more than 450 pieces displayed throughout campus.
The 2022-23 Collection will be at the Buffalo Grove Fitness Center through March and last year’s touring artwork, the 2021-22 Collection, will be on display at Stevenson through May in the Student Art Gallery, located in the West Building, Second-Floor Rotunda.
“Community College Week” Continues TODAY!
A total of six community colleges are visiting Stevenson this week during “Community College Week!”
These college visits are similar to the college rep visits that took place during the fall. Interested Juniors and Seniors should register within Naviance and seek teacher permission two school days in advance to attend the scheduled visit.
All visits will take place in the College And Career Center.
TODAY, Seventh Period ~ Kirkwood Community College (on the campus of University of Iowa)
TOMORROW, Fourth, Fifth or Sixth Periods ~ College Of Lake County (in-district community college with guaranteed admission with dozens of four-year colleges). Seniors who are interested in taking part in the upcoming CLC application workshops and/or placement testing should fill out this survey prior to the events.
FRIDAY, Sixth Period ~ Harper College (students can receive in-district tuition rates by working within campus boundaries)
SAGA Dance Is Back: Masquerade Ball Is FRIDAY!
It’s been three long years since the last SAGA Dance, so this year’s Masquerade Ball is going to be bigger and better than ever!
The Sexuality And Gender Alliance invites you to join your friends and show your support for Stevenson’s LGBTQ+ community by dancing the night away FRIDAY from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. in the Lower East Glass Commons.
Music will be provided by the Stevenson DJ Club. There will also be free food and fun activities. This is a great opportunity to meet some new people and have fun!!

Reminder: Pick Up Your Illinois State Scholars Certificate NOW!
The Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC) recently announced its 2023-24 Illinois State Scholars.
Stevenson students who are Illinois State Scholars should pick up their certificates, which were first made available in mid-December, THIS WEEK in the College Career Center by showing their ID.
Students with Illinois Standard Test Scores (ISTS) of 31 or higher are automatically designated as State Scholars. Students with an ISTS lower than 31 but who have a Weighted Selection Score (WSS) greater than or equal to the cutoff score of 47 are also designated as State Scholars.

TOMORROW ~ CLC Visit…And Workshops: The College And Career Center is hosting a series of College Of Lake County workshops throughout the Second Semester, starting with a visit TOMORROW from CLC during all lunch periods in the CCC. (Seniors ~ and juniors ~ are welcome to join a session.) This is the first of SIX total events in this CLC workshop series. TUESDAY, Feb. 14: Summer Job Fair ~ Representatives from more than 40 local businesses (camps, food, retail) will be sharing part-time work opportunities available to students this summer at the upcoming Summer Job Fair. Stevenson is hosting the event next TUESDAY (Feb. 14) during the fourth-, fifth- and sixth-period lunches in Rooms 5120, 5124 and 5128 of the Patriot Wellness Center, and students may visit any time. FRIDAY, Feb. 17 ~ Registration Deadline For Biliteracy Exam: The February 2023 Biliteracy Exam is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 25. The exam is available only to Juniors and Seniors, and seating is limited. The registration deadline for the exam is Friday, Feb. 17, at 12 noon. MARCH 8 ~ Deadline To Register For Second-Semester AP Tests: Students taking Second Semester (Only) Advanced Placement classes can now register for their AP Tests that will take place in May. MARCH 23 ~ Deadline To Register For Summer School: Online registration for Summer School courses is open until March 23. To get started, please go to Infinite Campus. FRIDAY, Feb. 24: Early-Bird Ticket Deadline For Winterfest 2023: Arcade! Get your tickets for the upcoming Winterfest Dance, which will be held on SATURDAY, Feb. 25 (7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. in the West Commons and Sportscenter). The price is $25 through Feb. 24. Tickets will be available at the door for $40.NOTE: If you would like to bring a guest (a student from another school) to the Dance, you must fill out a guest form. Guest forms may be submitted NOW through Feb. 17.
UNTIL MARCH 31: Senior Party Cruise Tix ~ Seniors can now buy tickets for “The Senior Class Party,” an amazing two-hour boat cruise on Lake Michigan May 25, aboard the “Spirit Of Chicago!” Seniors will enjoy amazing skyline views and DJ entertainment during the cruise. There will also be a lunch buffet on the boat that will include delicious desserts and unlimited soft drinks. The early-bird price for tickets ($40 apiece) is good until MARCH 31, and after that tickets will increase to $45 apiece. To complete the transaction, put your Student ID in the Promo Code. Buses will board at Stevenson at 12 noon on May 25 and then head to Navy Pier to board the boat. The cruise will run from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Buses will bring everyone back to Stevenson by around 6 p.m.

Get Your Nominations In By FRIDAY For Winter Sports Awards!
The Winter Sports Awards Night is coming up next month and part of the event includes the announcement of the annual Exceptional Stevenson Patriot Pride Awards.
Students, parents, faculty and staff are encouraged to vote for Winter athletes and teams in the following categories: Team Community Service, Comeback Award, Breakthrough Under-Level Athlete, Breakthrough Varsity Athlete, Best Under-Level Game Performance, Best Varsity Game Performance, Superfans, Best Manager and Best Moment in Winter Sports.
Nominate a WINTER athlete for an Exceptional Stevenson Patriot Pride Awards (ESPPA) by FRIDAY.
The Winter Sports Awards Night is at 7 p.m. on TUESDAY, March 7 in the Sportscenter.
Sports Notes
On Campus: Girls Gymnastics Competing In Sectional Tonight
Three members of the girls gymnastics team will be competing in the IHSA Sectional, starting at 6 p.m. TONIGHT in Stevenson’s Sportscenter.
Ashley Schabes, Emma Fang and Clara Cavalcanti will all be competing in the all-around, as well as in various individual events, with the opportunity to qualify for the IHSA State Finals at stake. The State Finals will be held at Palatine High School next weekend.
Tickets for the Sectional tonight are $6 and can be purchased at GoFan IHSA.
Sports Events Ahead
FRIDAY/SATURDAY: Girls Wrestling Sectional ~ Junior Sajra Sulejmani and senior Sammi Goldstein from Stevenson will be attempting to qualify for the IHSA Girls State Wrestling Finals for the second straight year by competing this weekend in the IHSA Sectional hosted at Evanston Township High School. The sectional at Evanston will run Friday and Saturday in Beardsley Gym. Doors do not open to spectators until 4:45 p.m. on Friday. Spectators may enter through the rear of the school at Entrance 3 or through Door 51 off of Dodge Avenue. Tickets are $7 per day and must be purchased via GoFan.

Boys Basketball: The Patriots (20-5, 11-1) traveled to Waukegan for a conference match-up and got a 55-31 victory. Jack Dabbs scored 16 points and added 12 rebounds. Christian Uremovich (pictured right) added 18 points, while David Sulnius had 8 rebounds and 5 assists.
