Six Students Rep Stevenson At “All-State Musical” In Champaign
Six Stevenson students were part of the “All-State Musical” through the Illinois High School Theatre Festival at the University of Illinois over the weekend.
Alex Day, Justin Katin, Lily Mace, Lilly Fujioka, Ilex Rosen and Vicka Liokumovich were selected from a long list of candidates throughout the state of Illinois to perform the musical “Shrek.” Students statewide auditioned for this highly selective opportunity and then rehearsed on weekends throughout the fall semester before performing in front of a crowd of nearly 4,000 in Champaign.
Day played Pinocchio, Katin played the Big Bad Wolf and was the Farquaad understudy. Mace was a featured dancer, Fujioka was in the ensemble, Rosen was on the stage management team and Liokumovich was on the costume team.
Students worked alongside teachers, professors, and professional theatre artists. The six students that represented Stevenson in this year’s All-State cast and crew were the most ever for Stevenson.
Hitting The Century Mark: FBLA Rolls Up More Than 100 Medals!
There was plenty of gold, silver and bronze to go around for the Patriots.
At the Northern Area Leadership Conference held at College of Lake County earlier this month, Stevenson’s Future Business Leaders of America took home more than 100 gold, silver, and bronze medals. More than 200 students competed, with 195 of them placing in the Top 10 for their event. Students qualifying for State will compete at April’s FBLA State Leadership Conference in Springfield.
Area Executive Council elections were also held to fill positions for next year’s Northern Area Board. Six candidates from Stevenson ran across every board position which resulted in sophomore Tony Liu being elected Treasurer and junior Darius Anta being elected President of the conference.
FBLA is a national organization that helps students prepare for college and careers through leadership, community service and academic activities. Members learn about the functions of business, improve their presentations skills and exercise their creativity in hands-on simulations, competitions and networking events. The club meets on most Wednesday mornings at 7:45 a.m. in Room 2104.
Note: Darius Anta provided all of the photos except for the large group photo on the bleachers in the gym. That was provided by sponsor Beth Brilowski.
