Math Team Makes Math Fun For Kids At Carnival!

Hundreds of young kids earlier this month attended Stevenson’s Math Carnival, a free event that aims to create fun and positive math experiences for third to fifth graders in the community.

The Carnival attracted more than 400 students along with parents and staff for a total of approximately 1,000 people engaging in math exercises, winning math bucks and earning prizes.

It’s (Almost) Game Time, Ballers! “Ballapalooza” Is Saturday!

Calling all Ballers! Lace up those high tops…”Ballapalooza” is about to tip-off!

Once again, KIVA Club is hosting its popular “Ballapalooza,” a 3-v-3 basketball tournament at Stevenson that is not only for bragging rights, but also for a good cause!

The event will be held Saturday from 12 noon to 4 p.m. in the Sportscenter. Come check out the hoops skills of your classmates! 

KIVA Club, part of a national organization, raises money and lends it to entrepreneurs in economically developing countries who are looking to start a business. The entrepreneurs then pay back the loan to the club so it can use that money to loan to other entrepreneurs. 

At “Ballapalooza,” there will be gift card prizes for the top three winning teams consisting of $120 for first place, $90 for second place and $60 for third place. KIVA will then loan out more than $1000 to the choice entrepreneurs from the top three teams.

Winners Of Prestigious “Ambassador Award” Announced At Recent District 125 Board Meeting

One individual and one student group received Stevenson’s highest honor, the “Ambassador Award,” last week at the District 125 Board of Education Meeting.

The award honors students and staff who conduct themselves in such a way that brings distinction to Stevenson.

Class of 2022 alum Abigail Jiang (pictured left) was recognized for her achievement of a Perfect Score on the AP 2-D Art & Design Exam.

The Future Health Professionals Club (HOSA) (pictured above) was honored for its state championship last year. The members included:

Patriot Guitar Ensemble Concert On Tap For Tonight

It may be short…but it’s likely to be very sweet, especially the ending!

The Patriot Guitar Ensemble Concert will run about 45 minutes tonight but it will be jam-packed with a variety of music of “full ensemble performances, solo performances, and a crowd-pleasing finale.”

The show, starting at 7 p.m. in the West Auditorium, is the first of the school year for the Patriot Guitar Ensemble, the highest level guitar ensemble at Stevenson. The String Parents Association will be raising funds for Lesson Sponsorship Support by selling flowers and concessions.

A few weeks after this show, which can also be viewed via Vimeo, the Patriot Guitar Ensemble will be performing at Roosevelt University and then again at its Winter Concert at Stevenson.

Sophomores To Host “Spooooook-tacular” Halloween Contest Monday! 

Put on your thinking cap over the weekend to come up with a funny, witty, clever, scary, colorful and “spooook-tacular” Halloween costume for Monday’s Halloween Contest, sponsored by the Sophomore Class Board.

From 7:30 a.m. to 8:25 a.m. on Monday (Oct. 31), stop by the Lower Sportscenter (the area with the vending machines by the elevator, also know as the Lower Sportscenter Lobby) to be entered into the Halloween Costume Contest.

You will have a chance to be spotlighted on Stevenson’s official Instagram and also win a Jazzman’s Gift Card. Three winners will be picked! “Ghoul” Luck!!

Preparations For Frosh/Soph Play And Winter Play Begin Next Week

Colorful leaves are still on the trees, but the Patriot Theatre Company is already making plans for “Romeo And Juliet,” the Frosh/Soph Play and “The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time,” the Winter Play, performed in February and March, respectively.

An optional (but encouraged) Audition And Interview Workshop will be held next Wednesday (Nov. 2) from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Little Theatre.  

Auditions and Leadership interviews will take place Nov. 30 through Dec, 2 and rehearsals will begin the following week.

Pizza For The Patriettes: Get A Domino’s Card To Help Patriettes!

To help fund their competitions at the state and national levels, the Patriettes are selling Domino’s Pizza Cards for $15. The card offers a great deal (Buy a large pizza, Get a large pizza FREE) and is good through June 30, 2023.

The Patriettes will receive 50 percent of the proceeds from the card.

Get Your Pre-Game Meal At Culver’s Prior To “Ballapalooza” Tournament

In conjunction with its “Ballapalooza” Tournament on Saturday, KIVA Club is hosting a benefit fundraiser at Culver’s in Lincolnshire all day TOMORROW.

Mention KIVA’s Culver’s Fundraiser when ordering at Culver’s and 25 percent of group sales will be donated back to KIVA. 

The revenue raised by KIVA Club from both the Culver’s Benefit and the revenue from the “Ballapalooza” event will be sent to help third-world entrepreneurs in need of financial aid in the form of micro-loans.

Play The New Pokémon Set At Today’s IGC Event

There’s a new Pokémon set out and the Interactive Gamers Club is hosting a sealed event for those who want to play today after school in Room 7116.

Each player will receive six packs to build a deck and energy will be provided. The cost is $5, and players must be able to stay until 5:30 p.m. to participate.

Deadline Approaching To Register For Hebrew Biliteracy Exam

The Fall 2022-2023 Hebrew Biliteracy Exam, open to current Stevenson Juniors and Seniors, is coming up next month and the deadline to register is quickly approaching.

The exam is scheduled across two Late Arrival dates: Thursday, Nov. 17 and Thursday, Dec. 8.The deadline to register is by 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 9. Visit the Biliteracy Page on Stevenson’s Website to register. Once the registration form is submitted, attendees will be rerouted to the payment link to secure a seat.

Taking Driver Ed Second Semester? You Need An Eye Test!

Second Semester Driver Education Students must take an Eye Test THIS WEEK. 

Testing is available every day this week: Before School and during second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth and eighth periods in Room 6086. The process will take less than five minutes.

Remember to bring or wear your glasses or contacts if needed.

NOTE: The final step to getting your permit is the test. Don’t forget to sign up for your permit test by using the QR Code above. Testing will take place the week of Nov. 14.

Athletic Results

Boys Hockey: The Patriots lost a tough one in Northbrook to Glenbrook North, 8-3. Stevenson, now 11-3 on the season, got off to a quick start in the first period, scoring 2 of its 3 goals. Ethan O’Gradney scored the first goal on a power play, while Dylan Jette and Davis Jegers assisted. Jegers scored the second goal with just one second remaining in the first to tie the game. For the rest of the game, the Spartans were just too much for the Patriots. The final Stevenson score came from Jegers, assisted by Brandon Schultz. Next up for the Patriots is a tournament beginning on Friday, Nov. 4. More details to come.

Sports Notes

Football Playoffs: Stevenson is in the playoffs! The Patriots start their postseason run with a familiar foe, North Suburban Conference rival Warren. The game will take place at Warren’s O’Plaine Campus at 7 p.m. on Friday. Admission is $5.00 plus a convenience fee, for all fans that use GoFan digital ticketing. No passes will be accepted. Gates will open for teams and spectators at 6 p.m. and Stevenson fans will be asked to sit in the East Bleachers. Please note: There is a no re-entry policy at Warren. Soccer Sectional CHAMPIONSHIP: The boys soccer team also needs its fans to cheer at the sectional championship game at Buffalo Grove High School. The Patriots will take on Waukegan at 5 p.m. Friday at Buffalo Grove’s football stadium. General admission tickets are $7 and can be purchased via GoFan.


Boys Swim And Dive Needs You: This is the annual call out from the Boys Swim And Dive team for help from students. The team needs:

  • Students who are interested in being a manager for the team, working three days a week. 
  • Students who are interested in performing the National Anthem to kick off home competitions. Auditions will be held for this unique opportunity. Both singers or musicians are welcome to apply.

Wang Celebration: The Athletic Department invites you to join in recognizing junior Sarah Wang for her Girls Tennis Singles State Championship at 8 a.m. on Tuesday (Nov. 1) in Room 5120.





Videographers Needed For Winter Sports: The Athletic Department is looking for individuals (adults and students) who can film varsity winter sports competitions for scouting purposes. Fall Sports Awards: The Sneaker Ball Awards are coming soon, so get your favorite sneakers ready and attend the Fall Sports Awards on Monday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. Dress to impress and win the best program award for the most fun sneakers. Attire: No sweats or pajama pants.

Rollins College English Professor Jana Mathews has written a book: “The Benefits of Friends: Inside the Complicated World of Today’s Sororities and Fraternities” (University of North Carolina Press, 2022). It’s a study of the close same-sex friendships that are a central part of sorority and fraternity membership.
