Seniors: Want Help With The College Application Process? The CCC Has You Covered!
School may have just started, but many Seniors are already starting to think about applying to college, and how to do so.
The College Career Center will hold its annual Senior Parent/Guardian Night from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 29. This event will be held in the Performing Arts Center and also live-streamed through Zoom. It is open to all parents and guardians of seniors at Stevenson.
Families requiring interpretation services are asked to e-mail: shs_CollegeCareer@d125.org, or call the CCC at (847) 415-4517 by Monday, Aug. 22.
During the presentation, Post Secondary Counselors Sara English and Dan Miller will discuss how to apply to colleges. Topics to be covered include types of applications (Common App, for example), admission plans (including Early Decision), deadlines, obtaining a transcript, standardized test scores, letters of recommendation, essays, and scholarships.
This presentation will be recorded. Within one week it will be posted on the CCC website with the slides.

Patriot Wellness Center Open To All Students After School
Hey Patriots! Don’t forget: The brand new Patriot Wellness Center is open not only for physical welfare classes…but the fitness areas will also be open to ALL STUDENTS after school.
Hours of operation for the Patriot Wellness Center are:
~ Monday through Thursday: 3:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
~ Friday: 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.
~ Saturday and Sunday: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Remember: Before school and during periods 1 through 8, the PWC will be an academic space for physical welfare classes. So, if you’re interested in using the PWC during the school day, join a physical welfare class.
For students interested in working out after school, we offer a variety of effective movement programs for all skill levels and interests. In addition, we will allow you to vote on the group classes you want to see offered starting in October. Options to vote on include: yoga, group fitness, pilates, HIIT, and more.
Our goal is to help you make the most of your time at the Patriot Wellness Center. For more information about programs offered in the PWC, please email PWC@d125.org.
Boys Badminton Club Is Starting Up Next Week Grab your racket and join the Boys Badminton Club! The first meeting of the year is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 23 from 3:45 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Fieldhouse. If you have your own racket, please bring it. However, rackets will be provided for those who do not have their own. Shuttles will also be provided. In addition, you must dress appropriately for athletic competition. This includes wearing athletic shoes and no jeans. Last year, the club boasted nearly 90 members. For those who are returning, remember that court space may be tight and there may be a need to share time on the court. |
Elks National Foundation Awarding Up To $12,500 In Annual College Scholarships
Seniors: Need scholarship money for college?
The Elks National Foundation will award 500 four-year scholarships to the Class of 2023, and male and female students will compete separately for annual award ranging from $1,000 to $12,500.
Eligible students must be pursuing a full-time, four-year degree. Applicants will be evaluated on their leadership, academic achievements, community involvement, and financial need. Applicants do not need to be related to a member of the Elks.
The deadline to apply is Nov. 14.

Athletic Results
Boys Golf: The Patriots finished sixth out of 13 teams at the Al Kintzle Invitational. Stevenson was led by senior Jun Park and junior Abhay Agarwal with scores of 77 each. Both players finished in the top 20. Additional scores from Stevenson players were: junior Richard Wang (81), senior Ryan Sturtewagen (81), junior Bobby Yun (82) and junior Rajan Joshi (87). Next up for the Patriots is the Warren Varsity Invite at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
Call Out To Cheerleaders: Tryouts Today In Fieldhouse
There will be a tryout for Cheer today from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. for both the JV and Varsity teams on Court 6 of the Fieldhouse.
Mark Your Calendars: Mandatory Student-Athlete Meeting Coming Up
All 2022-23 student-athletes are required to attend ONE general informational meeting during the school year. The first one is scheduled for Aug. 25 from 9:45 a.m. to 10:15 am in the West Auditorium.
Attendance will be taken.
The full meeting schedule is: Sept. 15, Oct. 20, Nov. 17, Dec. 8, Jan. 19, Feb. 16, March 16, and April 20.
VIP Will Be On Campus This Week For Fall Sports Photos
Athletic teams at Stevenson will be having their pictures taken this week.
