Stevenson Students Start “WeConnect” To Show Gratitude To Those Who Help Others, And To Those Who Need A Lift
The hospital became a place over the last year that was far too familiar to senior Yimi Liu.
“My family got sick,” Liu said. “And the nurses were very kind to us, even when we didn’t understand the situation. They explained it to us patiently.”
Rather than just a simple “thank you,” Liu wanted to find a better way to express her gratitude. So she teamed up with some fellow Stevenson students to create “WeConnect,” a volunteer project that writes and sends positive letters, messages and artwork to the people who help us physically and mentally when we are struggling, people such as hospital workers and social workers.
“We think this project will enhance students’ appreciation for all of those great people and what they have done for us, and we are looking for volunteers who would join us to do cards, drawings, and letters,” Liu said. “We will be sending all of these gifts to the hospitals.”
WeConnect, which also includes board members Aayush Kashyap, Lia Novak, Nitika Goswami and Gloria Xing, is also wanting to expand its project to include people who could simply use a lift, such as fellow classmates who are struggling or patients in hospitals.
