Holiday Unity Event For Freshmen Starts Tomorrow

The class of 2025 is hosting a three-day Holiday Unity Event for freshmen, beginning tomorrow and running through Friday.

Tomorrow, freshmen will be creating “Holiday Well Wishes” chains during the lunch periods (in both buildings) that will be hung over the Student Activities Office. Any freshman student who makes part of the chain will receive a cosmic brownie as a reward for helping.

On Thursday, freshmen will be hiding 200 handmade snowflakes around the building and only freshmen will be able to search and turn them in for a raffle that consists of Winterfest tickets or Jazzman Gift cards. The turn-in box for the Scavenger hunt snowflakes will be located outside the Student Activities Office and the East Attendance Office.

Finally, on Friday, the freshmen will be hosting a Freshmen Social where freshmen can come and hang out with their peers, make crafts, watch a holiday movie, play board games, drink hot cocoa, and enjoy candy canes and cookies. These activities will take place from 3:30-6 p.m. in Room 6110.

Today Is #GivingTuesday!

As you reunite with loved ones in the coming weeks, it’s easy to forget that in our Stevenson community there are families whose daily lives have not yet recovered from the impact of the pandemic. Something as simple as buying groceries for a small holiday gathering remains out of reach. The Stevenson: One Family program provides food and crucial assistance to financially-fragile families to help them successfully navigate times of crisis or need. Today, on “Giving Tuesday,” you can ensure that friends and neighbors facing significant financial hardship can come back together to celebrate this holiday season. Would you consider a tax-deductible donation to provide meals and basic necessities to families in our community? With your generous gift, you can provide an SHS family with much-needed resources like:

  • $25 – one week of toiletries & household necessities
  • $50 – healthy food for Winter Break
  • $125 – two weeks of nourishing meals & groceries

Stevenson is a family and has always come together to support one another. Join us on #GivingTuesday and make your gift today.

New Club Offered At Stevenson: Muslim Student Association

There’s a new club at Stevenson. The Muslim Student Association will be a welcoming place for Muslims and others at Stevenson in which students can meet new people and find new volunteer opportunities. By housing a unified group of individuals that all have similar cultural and religious lifestyles, the goal is to secure a better future for Muslims in America. There is no obligation and there is no weekly commitment. Contact sponsor Jean Rebarchak at jrebarchak@d125.org for more information and to learn about meeting times and locations, or visit Student Activities with questions. The Muslim Student Association is not a Stevenson-sponsored club.

How Schools Can Call A Truce In Education’s Ongoing Culture War

Beyond platitudes and promises, we need decision-makers who bring people together to work towards the common good of student learning, healing and recovery. Using education as a wedge issue to stoke anger, resentment and to deepen divisions will only make matters worse.
