PATRIOT SPORTS NEWS

Football Team Prepares for Tough Test on Friday, Free Admission for All
The Patriots welcome one of the most successful football programs in the state to the Stevenson Stadium on Friday night for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff. Admission is free for all, as this event will most likely be the most well-attended athletic competition since the renovations to the stadium were completed in 2020. The Patriots, under third year Head Coach Brent Becker, look forward to welcoming the Patriot Nation back to the games this school year.}
The Maine South Hawks have appeared in the IHSA Playoffs every year since 1992 (no playoffs were held in 2021 due to COVID-19) and have won six IHSA state championships. In June 2020, the turf and track were replaced, and upgrades were made to the exterior fence and walkways. This will also be a welcome return for the Stevenson Marching Band, under the direction of Dr. Sonny Petway. The band was present in the stands for the 2020 season, but there’s nothing like being on the field for “Best Halftime Show in Lake County.” Joining the band at halftime will be the Patriettes, 2021 Dance Union National Champions, led by Head Coach Kristin Piekarski-Cook. Leading the student section from the track will be the Stevenson Cheerleaders, fifth in the state in 2021, led by Head Coach Jorie Walton. We hope to see everyone there!

Girls Volleyball Moved to Stevenson Today
Due to facility concerns, the girls volleyball matches scheduled today at Barrington have been moved to Stevenson High School. Freshman A and Freshman B will take place at 5:00 and 6:00 p.m., respectively, in the Sportscenter North court. Sophomores will play at 5:00 p.m. on the Sportscenter South court. JV and Varsity will play at 5:00 and 6:00 p.m., respectively, on the Sportscenter Wood.

Athletics Results
Girls Golf
For the first time since 2010, the Girls Golf Program captured the Lake County Invitational title, held at Bittersweet Golf Club, behind a blistering team score of 297, 61 strokes ahead of second place Lake Forest (358). In 2018, the Patriots lost to Deerfield by one stroke and have waited until now to redeem that loss. The tournament was cancelled in 2019 due to weather, and then cancelled again in 2020 due to the pandemic. Six Patriot golfers placed in the top 15, with Junior Allie Santos leading the field with a championship round of 72. Senior Emily Duan placed third (74), Freshman Allyson Duan placed fourth (75), Sophomore Chelsea She finished fifth (76), Sophomore Megan Lee finished tied for ninth (83) and Junior Jessica Valent finished tied for eleventh (85).

Boys Golf
The boys golf team shot a team score of 318, good enough for a second place finish at the 2021 Lake County Invite at Thunderhawk Country Club. Senior Eli Goldes carded a 75 and finished in fourth place, followed by Senior Madhav Muralidharan and Sophomore Richard Wang each shot an 80 and finished in thirteenth and fourteenth place, respectively.

Boys Soccer
The Patriots attacked early and never looked back vs. St. Viator. Two first half goals, one by Christian Yen, assisted by Daniel Sokolovsky, and another by Alex Xie, resulted in a 2-1 halftime score. In the second half, the Patriots scored three times on a Grayson Lueck goal, assisted by Daniel Sokolovsky, an Adam Hamad goal, assisted by Daniel Sokolovsky and a goal by Kohei Mori. The 5-1 victory is a great start for the Patriots, a program that produced a 10-3 record under Head Coach PepeJon Chavez. Their next action is on Thursday, Aug. 26, as they travel to McHenry High School for another non conference game at 4:30 p.m.

Girls Field Hockey
The girls field hockey team lost 0-6 against Glenbrook South for their season opener. Senior Marissa Dickers had 22 saves in the first three quarters and Senior Johanna Jakobson had two saves during the last quarter.
