Announcing Stevenson’s Daily Digest: Special Editions
While the Daily Digest usually goes on hiatus over the breaks, this summer, we will be distributing special editions of the Daily Digest for athletics! Given that we still have nine more sports teams competing until mid-June, we want to be sure that our entire Stevenson community stays up-to-date on our amazing athletes. Recent Athletics Results
Girls Water Polo
For the sixth time in the last six seasons, the girls water polo team stood on the podium to receive a state trophy. This year’s IHSA runner up finish was the pinnacle to a 28-3 season and one in which the team claimed a conference championship and an IHSA Sectional championship. Maria Mossakowski and Belle Cloeter had two goals apiece to lead the Patriots in the 15-6 loss to Naperville North, while Faith Ma, Yachi Patel and Elizabeth White all contributed one. Boys Water Polo
Capping off a perfect 30-0 season, the boys water polo team earned its second IHSA State Championship, defeating Lyons Township 15-8. Drew Wangard and Dimitriy Kobets led the attack with 4 goals each. Several other Patriots contributed in the scoring column: Sammy Maya (2), Jacob Whiting (2), Nathan Mossman (1), Hemsith Seneviratna (1), Angelos Koutsogeorgas (1). Alex Mitchell was solid in the goal, posting 12 saves in the victory. The boys water polo program under Coach Sean Wimer has made nine straight appearances in the IHSA State Finals, winning a State Runner-Up trophy in 2015 and 2016 and a State Championship in 2017 and 2021. Tennis
The boys tennis team captured their 20th North Suburban Conference title on Friday, behind strong play from the entire lineup. The doubles teams of Payten Adkisson/Daniel Tulchinskiy (#1), Ervin Perkowski/Gabriel Visotsky (#2), Kevin Fei/Gautham Kappagunthula (#3), and Raj Sachar/Daniel Jowarski (#4) all captured NSC Championships. Nicholas Stec placed second at #1 Singles, while Ashvath Madhushankar and Thomas Gong secured NSC Titles at #2 and #3 singles, respectively. Check out complete coverage by the Daily Herald here.
