Stevenson Student Wins Top Prizes in Journalism Competition
Congratulations to Junior Victoria Feng, who received several awards from the Illinois Woman’s Press Association’s High School Communications Contest. She received three 1st place finishes, one 3rd place finish, and 2 Honorable Mentions for the following submissions:

  • First place in the Sports Story category: “Female high school e-sports teams are blazing a trail for girls in games”
  • First place in the Opinion category: “As a teen POC, I’m beyond offended by that racist college recruiter”
  • First place in the News Story category: “Colleges are hiring influencers to make mask-wearing a trend”
  • Third place in the News Story category: “What it’s like being a Bay Area high school right now”
  • Honorable Mention in the Opinion category: “I’m a high school student. Sending kids back to school is a mistake for kids, their families, and the country”
  • Honorable Mention in the Opinion category: “What it’s like being an Asian American student during the pandemic”

As a first-place winner, Victoria’s submissions will be elevated to the National High School Communications Contest sponsored by the National Federation of Press Women. Those results will be announced during a virtual awards ceremony held on Saturday, May 22. Congratulations to Victoria, and good luck in nationals!

Don’t Forget About World’s Fair Tonight!
Don’t forget that the annual World’s Fair is TONIGHT! Check out the 18 virtual booths that will be featured from around the world and enter for a chance to win prizes! Booths will be held via Zoom from 5-6:30 p.m. while performances will stream on YouTube from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Hope to see you all there!

Help the Stevenson Choirs!
Just in time for spring, the Choral Guild, the parent association supporting our choir students, is selling Leider’s Greenhouse gift certificates as a fundraiser!
Gift certificates are sold through the Patriot Superstore, and 20% of every gift card sold will go into the individual choir student’s Student Account which can be used for choral activities, such as field trips.
The last day to order your gift certificates is Sunday, May 2. Thank you for supporting our choir students!

Athletic Results for April 22
Boys Tennis
The boys tennis team beat Highland Park 6-2. Eli Gordon, at number 1 singles, won his match 5-7, 6-3, 6-2, while Ashy Madhushankar won his match 6-1, 6-1. All six doubles teams pulled through with a win. Number 1 doubles team of Payton Adkisson and Daniel Tulchinskiy won their match 4-6, 6-2, 6-3, while the number 2 doubles team of Rongcheng Hu and Evan Glebov beat Highland Park 6-3 , 4-6 , 6-2.

Girls Soccer
The girls soccer lost to Buffalo Grove, 3-2, behind goals from Bella Chavez off a free kick and Alyssa Bende, assisted by Dakota Leonard. The Patriots (2-1) play next on Tuesday, April 27 vs. Carmel at the SHS Stadium.
