Announcing This Semester’s Finals Experience
With the end of the semester just around the corner, we want announce the second semester Finals Experience so Patriots know what to expect May 24-27. The Finals Experience schedule can be found in the weekly schedule.
Monday, May 24, and Tuesday, May 25, will be designated Student Check-In Days. On these days, students will be fully remote and following the late arrival schedule.
Wednesday, May 26, and Thursday, May 27, will be designated days for students to demonstrate their proficiency. On these days, students will have the choice to come to school or be remote. We will have four classes each day that are 45 minutes long.

The Statesman Returns to “Newsstands”
Exciting news, Patriots! For the first time in over a year, Stevenson’s student-run news magazine, The Statesman, is back on the “newsstands”! Print issues can be found in distribution boxes around the school. Anyone who would like to preview past reporting can always do so by visiting the news magazine’s website.

STUDENT ANNOUNCEMENTS

Grab a Slice of ‘Za on the House!
The Patriot Parent Association is proud to provide another Treat Day! Students will receive an email today to pick up a free slice of Papa John’s pizza any day from April 8-11 from 4-7 p.m.
The deal is available only at the Papa John’s located at 384 W Half Day Rd, and students will be asked to show either a print copy of the email or pull it up on their phones. Enjoy, Patriots!

Athletic Results for April 6
Girls Water Polo
Liz Matlin led the Patriots (6-0, 2-0) by scoring 4 points, followed by Maria Mossakowski who scored 3 goals in a 20-0 win over Mundelein. Belle Cloeter, Mary Fouani, Becca Stone, Camilla Maya and Yachi Patel all scored 2 goals each. Becca Stone led the steal category with a total of 6. Maggie Bauwens had 2 saves and assists while Katie Dalaney had 3 blocked shots. Next up, the team will be taking on Lake Forest on Thursday, April 8.

Boys Soccer
In the first half of the Boys Varsity Soccer game vs. Waukegan, Adam Hamad scored the opening goal, assisted by Nazar Mormul. In the second half, Alem Duratovic scored, assisted by Anthony Skordilis. Then to finish the game Chris Xie scored, assisted by Owen Nakrzewski. The final score of the evening was 3-0 victory over the Bulldogs. Coach PepeJon Chavez recognized his Varsity seniors Gavin Blackley, Alem Duratovic, Maxwell Goldstein, Vladimir Landa, Segi Odongo, Anthony Skordilis, Jacob Stoga, and Christopher Xie. Our JV Senior Simone Barbieri and Andrey Espinosa Paiotti will be recognized after Saturday’s match with Round Lake in the Stadium at 10:00 am.

Boys Water Polo
Stevenson Defeated Mundelein by a score of 18-5 to move to 7-0 on the season, 2-0 in the NSC. They are currently ranked #1 in the state by IllPolo.com. Goalie Alex Mitchell had 7 saves, while Dimitriy Kobets contributed 5 goals, 4 assists, and 5 steals. Other goals were scored by Angelos Koutsogeorgas (3), Sully Swanson (3), and Drew Wangard (3), Olin Kusevskis (2) Grant Huey (1) and Nathan Mossman (1).

EDUCATION NEWS

Study Results Spotlight a Desire for Financial Literacy Education
Nearly half of more than 1,000 respondents said that having more financial literacy education would have helped them manage their money better during the pandemic. Currently, only 21 states require that high-schoolers take a personal finance course.

Cleaning a College in a Pandemic
Custodial teams at schools across the country have been essential in maintaining a safe learning environment during the pandemic. We are so grateful to our Sodexo team for leading out one of our nine mitigation strategies: daily cleaning and disinfection of our school.
