Welcome Back, Pats!
It was wonderful seeing so many of our students back on campus yesterday to kick off our first full in-person learning day! Members of the Freshman Mentor Program (FMP) decorated the sidewalks and enthusiastically greeted over 1,300 returning students. Thank you for your patience and hard work throughout this year. SHS Students Impress at National Art & Writing Competition
Three SHS students were recognized for the National Scholastic Art & Writing Awards by the University of Iowa’s Belin-Blank Center. Junior Victoria Feng received recognition in five areas, while Junior, Sabrina Xue, and Freshman, Elizabeth Yuan, each received one recognition.
Feng, Xue and Yuan were among student-artists and writers, grades 7-12, who submitted more than 6,000 entries for the 2021 competition.

Share Your Voice!
Is poetry your thing? Interested in sharing your voice? Submit a video of an original spoken word poem to SLAMFest by April 18 for a chance to win prizes! All videos should be under 3 minutes and 15 seconds and should begin with your name and title of the piece.
The virtual showcase and awards ceremony will be on April 23 at 7:00 p.m. Invite your friends to see some great spoken word poetry!

REMINDER: Juniors To Take In-Person SAT
On Tuesday, April 13, juniors will take the SAT (no writing) in-person at Stevenson to fulfill the State of Illinois’ graduation requirement. This administration is the only SAT exam administration that meets this requirement; no weekend SAT satisfies this mandate. We have automatically registered students and there is no fee to take the exam. Check-in will begin at 7:45 a.m. and the test will conclude shortly after noon. Please check the email from April 1 for more specific testing day information.

Girls Basketball Players Selected for Coaches All-State Teams
Girls Basketball Athletes Simone Sawyer and Ava Bardic were recognized on the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association 2020-21 All-State Teams. Sawyer, a junior, was selected on the All-State Team, while Bardic, also a junior, was chosen as a Special Mention selection. It’s been twenty years since a Stevenson girls basketball athlete was recognized for this honor. Sawyer joins an elite list who have received the First Team All-State Selection which includes Tamika Catchings (1994), Tauja Catchings (1996), Katie Coleman (1996) and Jenni Dant (2001).

Calling All Student-Athletes Interested in Wrestling!
Stevenson Wrestling will host a pre-season meeting for athletes and parents on Thursday, April 8 at 7:30 p.m. Join via Zoom.

Athletic Results for April 5

Girls Volleyball
The girls volleyball team defeated Zion-Benton 25-4, 25-18 to bring their overall season record to 5-1. Serena Mehta led the Patriots with eight aces, ten digs and two kills. Amanda Holsen had seven kills, Brook Micek had seven assists, Abby Minin had six assists and Lilli Wangard had five assists. Next up, the team will travel to Libertyville on Wednesday, April 7.

Districts Aim to Maximize Summer Learning
Schools across the nation are planning to enhance summer programs to support academic progress and in-person socialization – something that many students have missed over the past year.

Using Nature to Engage Student Learning
By including nature within lesson plans – whether that be through park visits, pets or potted plants – teachers can inspire learning within their classrooms and foster social and emotional skills such as relationship-building and empathy.
