Differentiating Between COVID, Cold and Flu Symptoms: A Message from Stevenson Nursing Staff
With the start of cold and flu season coinciding with the COVID-19 pandemic it can be confusing to determine what symptoms relate to which illness.
Because some of the symptoms of flu and COVID-19 are similar it may be hard to tell the difference between them based on symptoms alone; testing will be needed to confirm a diagnosis. Flu and COVID-19 share many characteristics, but there are some key differences between the two.
The Illinois Department of Public Health prepared this chart showing differences between COIVD, cold and flu symptoms.
The Stevenson nursing staff and PediaTrust physician evaluations are available to students who begin to feel ill while on campus through the Stevenson COVID Clinic located just inside the Circle Drive entrance. All students are urged to contact the COVID Clinic at covidclinic@d125.org if they are experiencing any COVID-related symptoms, have tested positive, have undergone testing and are awaiting results or have had contact with a COVID-19 positive individual. Services provided through the Stevenson Student COVID Clinic are posted on the COVID-19 Updates webpage.
The Stevenson nursing staff share that it is very important, especially this year, to receive your flu vaccine and when it is available to you, to get the COVID-19 vaccine to prevent serious illness or complications from the coronavirus.
