All State Musical: A Virtual Cabaret
Two Stevenson seniors were selected to be part of the Illinois High School Theatre Festival.
Seniors Caylie Chattin (violin) and Emmie Ginsberg (actor) will be performing in A Virtual Cabaret on Jan. 9 at 7 p.m. They are part of a select ensemble of seniors who are the top high school actors, technicians, and musicians in the state.
There is no fee to attend this event online, and the performance link will be posted at www.illinoistheatrefest.org.

Stevenson Foundation Scholarship Opportunities
Applications are now open for the Stevenson Foundation Scholarship Program which has more than $45,000 in scholarships celebrating academic excellence, leadership, community service, arts and athletics. All graduating SHS seniors are encouraged to apply and the deadline is Feb. 2.

Dance Company Virtual Audition Videos
Friday is the deadline for students enrolled in in a Stevenson Dance class to submit an audition video for one of two curricular dance companies.
The Mélange Dance Company is composed of advanced technical dancers who are interested in exploring more about the art of choreography. The Repertory Dance Company enriches a dancer’s artistic integrity, creativity, versatility, performance quality, and movement vocabulary in a vigorous and disciplined setting.
Student-dancers interested in auditioning for either of these companies for second semester should join the Mélange and Repertory Dance Company Audition Google Classroom page with the class code nszqbyt. After joining, students must learn a dance phrase which is posted as an assignment, record themselves performing the phrase, and submit it to the Google Classroom.
Please note the following dates and times:

  • Student audition video due date: Friday, Jan. 8 by 11:59 PM
  • Company casts will be announced the week of Jan. 11

Practices will be held at approximately 3:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays for members of both companies.

Who’s Playing: A Round-Up of High School Sports Status by State
While high school athletes in Illinois have been paused, there is a wide variety of guidelines being implemented across the country.

School Districts Announce Plans for Saliva Screenings
Other school districts in the state will also be implementing COVID-19 saliva screenings. LaGrange District 102 reports the test helped contain a post-Halloween outbreak in three 5th grade classrooms. In some schools, the testing is mandatory for staff and students, and in some schools such as New Trier the testing is only for students.

Liberal Arts College Expand Career and Tech Education for Adults
Some small liberal arts colleges are creating short-term, non-degree programs to meet community needs for technical workers and increase enrollment during a time when enrollment of traditional college students is shrinking.

Extension of School Year into the Summer a Possibility for California Public Schools
California K-12 students may have their school year extended into the summer. Gov. Gavin Newsom indicated funds for this will be included in the budget he will be presenting in January.
