Dance Concert This Weekend

Dancing and choreography from 24 students will be on display during this weekend’s Winter Dance Concert. The concert, featuring students from the Mélange and Repertory dance companies and the Concert Dance class, will be held at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday in the Performing Arts Center. Admission is $6.

Student choreographers for the concert are: Jessica Altenberg, Georgie Casaletto, Grace Catlin, Kailyn Choi, Ellie Jayne, Emily Kang, Joyce Kang, Misako Kasagi, Leah Kochevar, Juliette Koskela, Kiley Lacher, Amelia Lee, Allison Noronha, Elizabeth Noronha, Alison Page, Emily Pappas, Christine Potermin, Ari Reinstein, Haley Sachs, Kennedy Schooley, Zoey Silver, Angelina Silvestri, Isabella Stock and Morgan Taitel.

German Portfolio Night Next Week

The German program will host its first-ever German Portfolio Night for students and parents on Thursday and Friday, Dec. 6-7, from 3:40-8:30 p.m. each night. Parents will be able to hear their students’ presentations in German. Contact Paulina Glowacka-Tuman at pglowacka@d125.org for more details.

Best Buddies Fundraiser Monday

Best Buddies is holding a fundraiser from 4-8 p.m. Monday at the Chipotle and Menchie’s restaurants at 950 Milwaukee Ave. in Lincolnshire. Mention Best Buddies at checkout, and a portion of your purchase will support the club’s efforts to fundraise for the annual Friendship Walk. Boys Basketball

Stevenson 56, Crystal Lake Central 39: Head coach Pat Ambrose earned his 400th career victory thanks to a career-high 14 points from junior R.J. Holmes and 13 from senior Luke Chieng. Ambrose, in his 20th season at SHS, has a career record of 400-161. He became only the third boys basketball coach in Lake County history to reach the 400-win mark. Junior Matt Kaznikov contributed 10 points, including two of the team’s five 3-pointers, and classmate Cameron Bernard added eight points against the Tigers (1-4). The win was the fourth straight for Stevenson (4-1), which plays host to Chicago’s Westinghouse College Prep at 5:30 p.m. Saturday. – NFHS Network Replay | Daily Herald

Girls Gymnastics

Stevenson 141.4, Mundelein 139.7, Libertyville 129.75: Junior Emily Weinstein won the all-around competition and three individual events as the Patriots posted their highest season opening-meet score in years. Emily captured the vault (9.5), uneven bars (9.4) and floor exercise (9.1) en route to winning the all-around with a score of 36.45. Senior Sarina Johnson was runner-up on floor (9.05) and tied for second on vault (9.3) with freshman Ally Gitler. Sophomore Ainslee Cutler took second on bars (9.3), and Aly was third (9.1). SHS returns to action Saturday at the Rolling Meadows Invitational. – Daily Herald

Boys Ice Hockey

Stevenson 2, Maine Township 0: Junior goalies Ben Newmark and Jeremy Riback combined for the shutout at IceLand Skate in Niles. Ben made 16 saves before yielding to Jeremy, who made two, with 7:28 remaining in the game. The Patriots scored both of their goals in the second period. Junior Brett Stokes hit the back of the net at the 11:43 mark, and senior Zach Wesley followed suit seven minutes later. Senior Seth Cohen assisted on each goal, and classmate Billy Kopka also had an assist on Zach’s score.

Hockey Team Holding Special Events This Weekend

The boys ice hockey team is holding a Fan Appreciation Night on Saturday for its varsity and junior varsity games against York at Twin Rinks Ice Pavilion in Buffalo Grove. There will be free fan giveaways, a raffle for Chicago Blackhawks tickets, and a special intermission exhibition. The varsity plays at 5:40 p.m., followed by the JV at 7:40. On Sunday, the team will have a fundraiser from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. at City Barbeque, 887 N. Milwaukee Ave., in Vernon Hills. Mention “Stevenson hockey” at the register, and a portion of the sale will go to the program. Also, if you make a $10 purchase, you’ll receive a raffle ticket for prizes.
