New Book Features Four Communication Arts Teachers
Four members of the Communication Arts faculty are contributors to a new book that aims to help English teachers engage their students in lively classroom discussions. Andrew Bouque and Dawn Forde joined three members of the Northern Illinois University faculty as editors of “Raise Your Voices: Inquiry, Discussion, and Literacy Learning.” The book, a collection of writings from high school teachers and university researchers, will be published Dec. 16. Its goal is to guide teachers in sustaining and assessing classroom discussions, especially those about issues of interest to adolescents.
“Raise Your Voices” includes individual chapters from Forde and Bouque, as well as one they co-wrote. Forde’s chapter is entitled “Seeing and Hearing What Actually Happens,” while Bouque’s contribution is “Inviting Student Reflection on Participation.” Their joint chapter is “Planning, Managing, and Troubleshooting for Rich Discussions.” Another chapter, “Digital discussions,” was co-written by colleagues Nicole Boudreau Smith and Mark Patton.
