Five Earn Medals at FCCLA National Conference
Five current and former SHS students captured gold medals at the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America National Leadership Conference this summer in Atlanta. 2018 graduate Lauren Stein placed third in the nation in the Interior Design event, designing and creating a sustainable home design to present to judges at the Savannah College of Art and Design. Bulls Tickets Among Freshman Mixer Prizes
Four tickets to a Chicago Bulls game will be among the prizes available for ninth-graders who attend the Class of 2022 Freshman Mixer from 7-9 p.m. Friday in the Wood Commons. The annual event, sponsored by the Patriot Parent Association, features music, games and a great chance for freshmen to meet their classmates. Any parents or guardians interested in volunteering, or who have questions about the mixer, can contact Karyn Gitler at karyntg@aol.com or Julie Walsh at cjwalsh@prodigy.net. The Freshman Mixer is a lock-in event which means once students arrive, they will remain at the event until the end. Admission is free but all students must present their student ID. Alum Lands on “40 Under 40” List in New York
New York Times reporter Vivian Wang (Class of 2013) has been named to the 2018 “Albany 40 Under 40” List by City & State, which covers the state of New York’s political scene. The 40 are considered leaders under age 40 in elected office, state government, labor or business, academia, government affairs and journalism. Wang, stationed in New York’s state capital since January, joined the Times after graduating from Yale University in 2017.

With hundreds of vehicles coming on and off the Stevenson campus before and after school, the Lincolnshire Police Department offers these safety reminders for drivers and pedestrians.

Varsity Sports Teams Excel in Classroom
All 13 varsity spring sports teams had a grade point average of 3.0 or higher during their season, earning Team Academic Achievement Awards from the Illinois High School Association. Overall, 30 of 31 SHS varsity teams that were eligible received Team Academic Achievement Awards during the 2017-18 school year. Since the IHSA started the award in the 2004-05 school year, 10 Stevenson sports have won it every year: girls badminton, boys and girls golf, girls soccer, softball, boys tennis, girls and boys track and field, boys volleyball and girls water polo.
Alum Named to Preseason All-America Team
Wheaton College defensive lineman Patrick O’Connell (Class of 2015) has been named to the preseason NCAA Division III All-America first team by D3football.com. O’Connell plays for Wheaton College, which went 8-2 last year and is ranked 18th in this year’s preseason poll. The sophomore, who transferred to Wheaton from Ball State, started all 10 games for the Thunder last fall, recording 8.5 tackles for loss and five sacks.

Student iPads Only Connect to One Network
Your SHS-issued iPad is configured to connect to the Student network, which is available campus-wide and exclusively in classrooms. Do not connect your SHS iPad to any other network on campus, in particular Public or Visitor. Trying to connect your SHS iPad to the Public or Visitor network will lock the iPad out of connecting to any network on campus, and will require a visit to the SMARTdesk to resolve the issue. If the iPad must be reset, all data may be lost.
College representatives are coming to the College Career Center this fall to meet with interested students. Indiana University will have a representative here on Tuesday, Sept. 4, and the University of California at Berkeley has someone coming on Monday, Sept. 10.
