Girls Water Polo Wins State Title Again

Stevenson’s girls water polo team defeated Fenwick, 12-7, to win its second consecutive Illinois High School Association state championship and third in the last four seasons on Saturday. The Patriots finished the season with a 35-1 record, and won their last 33 games. More details in the Sports section.

Junior’s Quartet Wins Prize at Michigan

Junior Adele Lee, former SHS student Rowena Bakke, and their ensemble, Quartet Callisto, won third place in the Junior Strings Division at the M-Prize International Chamber Arts Competition held May 4-6 at the University of Michigan. They received $2,000 for their finish. Adele plays violin and Rowena is a cellist.

In April, the group also won the Audience Choice Award at the 13th annual St. Paul String Quartet Competition, and finished first runner-up in the Junior Division at the Young Chamber Musicians Competition in North Carolina.

Quartet Callisto will perform during the Young Steinway Concert Series at the Skokie Public Library at 3 p.m. Sunday.

Students Explore East Building Addition

Students in the Advanced Architectural Design and PLTW Civil Engineering and Architecture courses explored Stevenson’s new East Building addition construction site

​Thursday. This was their third venture into the area this school year. Gilbane Building Company Project Manager Jarlath Lynch taught students about the mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems being installed on the site. Check out more information from their visit on our Facebook page.

Girls Water Polo

Stevenson at IHSA State Tournament: Junior Lauren Maloney scored six goals and senior Claire Haas added three to lead the Patriots (35-1) past Fenwick, 12-7, for their second straight state title and third in the last four seasons. Junior goalie Anna Mossakowski made 10 saves for SHS, which ended the year with a 33-game winning streak. Juniors Eleanor Michaud and Kalista Tapas, and senior Amelia Eastman also scored for Stevenson, which has a record of 139-5 over the last four seasons. SHS led 4-2 after the first quarter, then extended its lead to 7-3 at halftime. Head coach Jeff Wimer’s squad reached the finals by defeating Naperville North in the semifinals, 13-6. Stevenson rolled to a 9-1 halftime lead and was never challenged. Lauren led SHS with five goals, Claire had three, and Kalista added two. Girls Track and Field

Stevenson at IHSA Class 2A State Meet: At Eastern Illinois University, freshman Camille Clay finished ninth in the shot put, the program’s first state medalist since 2014. Camille recorded a top throw of 39 feet, 2.25 inches en route to becoming the third Patriot medalist in shot put. She joins 1995 state champion Tammy Renda and Rachel Redmond, who was seventh in 2010. – Official Results

Boys Tennis

Stevenson hosted IHSA Sectional: At the Vernon Hills Athletic Complex, the Patriots won their 12th consecutive sectional championship and qualified all four entries to the Class 2A state tournament beginning Thursday. Senior Sam Komis defeated junior teammate Zachary Kim for the singles title, 7-6 (2), 6-3. Each will be making his third appearance at state. Zachary is a three-time qualifier in singles, while Sam qualified in singles last year after reaching in doubles in 2016. In doubles, freshmen Prathinav Merneedi and Eric Perkowski prevailed over Lake Forest’s top duo, 6-2, 5-7, 6-4, for the championship. Also making state for the first time was the tandem of juniors Aswath Viswanathan and Arjun Sheelvanth, who won the third-place match over Libertyville, 6-2, 6-7 (3), 6-4. In the team standings, Stevenson had 27 points while runner-up Lake Forest had 17. SHS has finished in the top 10 at state for five consecutive seasons. – Official Results

Girls Soccer

Stevenson hosted IHSA Regional: The second-seeded Patriots shut out No. 7 seed Fremd, 2-0, to capture their first regional championship since 2014. SHS (11-6-3) will face Libertyville in the Libertyville Sectional semifinals at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. Sophomore Gracie Wingfield and senior Ana Koruna scored Stevenson’s goals. Stevenson at IHSA Class 3A State Meet: Freshman Camille Clay finished second in her shot put flight with a throw of 39 feet, 2.25 inches, qualifying for the state finals. Senior Isabelle Sparreo barely missed making the finals in the 1,600-meter run. She finished seventh in her flight with a time of 5:03.70, the fastest of all non-finalists. – Official Results

Stevenson at IHSA State Tournament: The Patriots (33-1) defeated Mother McAuley in the quarterfinals, 12-9, for their 31st consecutive victory. Senior Claire Haas led SHS with five goals and three assists, and junior Lauren Maloney scored four times. Senior Amelia Eastman scored two goals and junior Kalista Tapas had one. Lacrosse Sectionals, Softball Regional Today

Three varsity teams are scheduled to participate in postseason play today (weather permitting). The first-ever IHSA lacrosse sectionals start today. On the girls’ side, Stevenson is the No. 1 seed in the Warren Sectional, and will play host to eighth-seeded Warren at 5:30 today in the Stadium. The game will be streamed live by the Stevenson Broadcast Network through the NFHS Network (paid subscription required). Click here to watch. The Patriot boys, meanwhile, play at Glenbrook South as part of the St. Viator Sectional. SHS is the No. 6 seed, while St. Viator is No. 3. Finally, Stevenson’s softball team is scheduled to play host to Glenbrook South in the Class 4A Glenbrook South Regional. SHS is the No. 13 seed in the sectional, and GBS is No. 19.
