2,000 Students Participate in Walkout

An estimated 2,000 students — about half of the student body — participated in the nationwide walkout Wednesday to push for gun control legislation on the one-month anniversary of the school shooting in Parkland, Fla. Stevenson Model UN Delegation Earns Honors at UI

Stevenson earned the award for Outstanding Large Delegation at the annual Model United Nations conference at the University of Illinois last weekend. In addition, 18 students received individual honors.

Best Delegate honors went to senior Joy Wang and juniors Hannah Zhang, Miranda Liu, Claire Huang and Dexter Darmali. Hannah, Miranda, Joy and Dexter also received Delegate’s Choice awards. Outstanding Delegate honors were received by senior Pranathi Posa, junior Vishnu Gopikanth, sophomore Janice Lee and freshman Prerna Posa. Six students earned Honorable Mention: freshmen Clare Hu (who also received an Honorable Mention) and Carson Ezell, sophomore Anand Vadlamani, and seniors Joe Malter, Adam Katz and Brad Ma. Freshman Sophia Zhuang, junior Ellie Baden and senior Jessica Shen earned verbal mention.

Paris Raffle Drawing, Strings Send-Off Concert Friday

A send-off concert and reception for orchestra and guitar students who will be performing in Italy during Spring Break will be held at 6 p.m. Friday in Room 2104. The evening also will include a drawing for the String Parents Association’s four-day, three-night trip to Paris. Raffle tickets are $25 each or $100 for five, and the winner does not need to be present. Visit this link for more information and to order raffle tickets.

Girls Soccer

Stevenson 3, Buffalo Grove 0: The Patriots opened their season with a shutout in the Stadium, giving new head coach PepeJon Chavez his first victory at the high school level. Chavez, who was selected to lead the girls soccer team last May, was head coach for the men’s and women’s soccer programs at Bethel University in Minnesota from 2007-09. Against Buffalo Grove, three Patriots scored: juniors Jessi Baigorria and Hannah Lapeire, and senior Brianna VanZanten, who also had an assist. Sophomore Gracie Wingfield also recorded an assist. Goalkeepers senior Zoey Friedman (three saves) and freshman Kaitlyn Machado (two saves) combined for the shutout.

State Hockey Ticket Sales Start Friday

Ticket sales for the state hockey championship game at the United Center start Friday through the Stevenson Superstore and online. A pep bus will be available for students, and commemorative T-shirts also are being sold. Read this article for all the details. Also, Stevenson has been named “Team of the Week” by NBC Sports Chicago. A report will air on the “High School Lites” show at 10 p.m. Saturday, with replays at 6:30 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. Sunday. The report also will be posted at the High School Lites website and on social media.

Brunson, Villanova in NCAA Tournament Today

You can watch Jalen Brunson (Class of 2015) and his Villanova University teammates in the NCAA men’s basketball tournament today. The Wildcats, the No. 1 seed in the East, will play No. 16 Radford at 5:50 p.m. in Pittsburgh. The game can be seen on TNT.
