Seniors, Frosh Leading Second-Place Math Team

Stevenson’s mathematics team stands in second place in the competitive North Suburban Math League after its second round of action Wednesday.

Stevenson was one of 12 host sites, and welcomed four schools to campus. Naperville North won the site competition with a score of 328, and stands atop the league with 665 points. SHS was second at its site (320) and is second overall (662). Also competing were Fremd (275), the University of Chicago Lab School (258) and Palatine (168).

Stevenson was the only team among 58 schools whose seniors posted a perfect score on Wednesday. Albert Cao, Andrew Luo and Josh Yoon answered all five questions correctly for 25 points apiece, as did one of the team alternates, Andrew Hwang. SHS also was perfect at the senior level in the first league meet, and stands alone in the NSML with 150 points, 11 ahead of its nearest competitor.

The freshman squad also earned the maximum score of 75, as did ninth-graders from four other schools. Stevenson’s perfect scorers were Gyeongwon (James) Kim, Brandon Lu, Ram Potham and Praneet Rathi. SHS has the maximum 150 points after two rounds, and is tied with two other schools for top honors.

Stevenson was second at the sophomore level for its site, second in orals, and fourth in the junior division. After two rounds, the sophomores are tied for second in the league, orals are third, and the juniors are tied for sixth.

Other perfect papers came from sophomores Eric Gan, Richard Liu, Emily Lu and Josh Tsai.
