School is in Session on Veterans Day

Please remember that school will be in session Veterans Day, Friday, November 11. Students Helping Soldiers and Sodexo are teaming up to invite veterans to attend their inaugural “Vet Fest” during the lunch periods in the Wood Commons. Students will be able to talk with veterans about their military experience and thank them for their service.

Painter Next Visiting Artist of the Month

Artist and historian Howard Schwartz is the SHS Visual Art Department’s next Visiting Artist of the Month. Several of his paintings will be on display in the Visiting Artist Gallery from Wednesday, November 9 through Friday, December 16. Schwartz will visit the school before the end of his show to talk with students and staff about his work, which draws upon photographs of different generations of his family.

Girls Volleyball

Stevenson at IHSA Class 4A Lakes Sectional: The second-seeded Patriots rallied to upset No. 1 Libertyville, 26-24, 25-15, advancing to the Super-Sectionals against DeKalb at 1 p.m. Saturday at Dundee-Crown High School. Boys Ice Hockey

It was a tough loss for Stevenson vs. Loyola Academy last night at Twin Rinks Ice Pavilion. The Patriots lost in a shoot out, 3-4.

Cross Country State Meet on Saturday

The girls cross country team will compete in the IHSA Class 3A state finals at 1 p.m. Saturday. Stevenson is one of 25 teams in the field. These 12 runners will hit the course at Detweiler Park in Peoria: senior Sydney Pacernick, juniors Lauren Appell, Gabriela Jagielo, Shea Kirby, Isabelle Sparreo and Natalie Sparreo, sophomores Alyssa Collins, Kendall Roberts, Natalie Sorenson and Taylor Yen, and freshmen Caimin Xi and Michelle Yu. Joining them downstate will be junior Nikita Smyrnov, who will run in the boys’ state meet at 2 p.m. Saturday. You can track state meet results at these links: Girls | Boys

Alum Earns Another Player of the Week Honor

SHS alum and Northern Illinois women’s volleyball standout Jenna Radtke (Class of 2013) recently earned Mid-American Conference West Division player of the week honors for the third straight week. This time, she was named the division’s top offensive player. The Huskies had won 14 straight matches as of Thursday, October 27, the fifth-longest streak in program history.


Free Ice Cream for Seniors Today

All seniors are invited to celebrate the end of the college application season with free ice cream starting eighth period and until 4:15 today in the Glass Commons.

Half-Wit Submission Deadline Monday

Freshmen and sophomores are invited to submit their poetry, fiction, essays, plays or  music lyrics for the next edition of the Half-Wit, Stevenson’s literary journal for underclassmen. Send your submission to Mr. Barnabee at by Monday, November 7. Please include your student ID number.

Tell Others About Academic Integrity

All students are invited to participate in a poster contest promoting academic integrity at Stevenson. Design a poster using a slogan or catchphrase based on one of these academic integrity values: honesty, trust, fairness, respect, responsibility and courage. Submissions are due by December 2. If you’re on a Patriot sports team and haven’t attended a required 30-minute Student-Athlete Meeting yet, your next chance is Thursday, November 10 from 9:45-10:15 a.m. in the West Auditorium. (November 10 is a late arrival day). Attendance will be taken, so make sure you bring your student ID. The other meeting dates for this school year (all late arrival days) are December 1, February 16 and March 16, at the same time and location.
