Political Action Club Marches to Early Voting
Stevenson’s Political Action Club hosted a “Parade to the Polls” on Saturday morning, led by the SHS Marching Patriots. Students and community members were encouraged to join the club in marching to the early-voting site at the Vernon Township office. The Political Action Club is part of the Mikva Challenge’s network of suburban schools looking for “action civics” opportunities to demonstrate that “democracy is a verb.”
Senior Named Semifinalist in Siemens STEM Competition
Senior Adit Ghosh has been selected as a semifinalist in the prestigious Siemens Competition in Math, Science and Technology. He is the fourth semifinalist from Stevenson in the past five years, joining Jeremy Lan (Class of 2015), Rohan Dasika (Class of 2013) and Rahul Maramreddy (Class of 2013). Lan was chosen in 2014 while Dasika and Maramreddy were picked in 2012.
Ghosh is one of 16 Siemens semifinalists from Illinois, and the only one attending a Lake County high school. Semifinalists’ projects will be judged to determine which ones advance to six regional competitions in November. Regional winners advance to the national finals held at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. in December, where $500,000 in scholarships will be awarded, including two top prizes of $100,000.

Wilhelm Named New Softball Coach
Perry Wilhelm, who led Mundelein High School’s softball program to two state finals appearances, has been named the new head softball coach at Stevenson High School. Mundelein finished third in Class AA in 1994 and also qualified for the AA finals in 1996. “It is with great pleasure that we welcome Coach Wilhelm to our staff at Stevenson,” said Athletic Director Trish Betthauser. “He not only brings a wealth of softball knowledge and experience to the position, but he is incredibly passionate about education-based athletics and what it has to offer for young adults.”
