Free Practice ACT for All Juniors Thursday

Although the state of Illinois is requiring all 11th-grade students to take the SAT exam this school year, Stevenson will honor its commitment to juniors who have been preparing the last two years for the ACT exam. The school will give all juniors the opportunity to take a practice ACT exam on Thursday to help them prepare for taking the ACT at SHS in February. Both exams are free to juniors. On Thursday, juniors need to report by 8:15 a.m. The practice ACT will start at 8:30. Click here for testing locations and other details. Thursday is a late-arrival day for all other students.

Senior Instrumental Soloists Selected

The Music Department has selected its senior instrumental soloists for the 2016-17 school year. They were chosen during the annual Senior Solo Audition Night last Thursday in the Recital Hall. The four senior soloists, and the piece they perform with the Patriot Orchestra, are: Jean Choi (Liszt’s Piano Concerto), Nicole Zukowski (Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto), Young Fenimore Lee (Shostakovich’s Cello Concerto) and Aryn Harmon (Dvorak’s Cello Concerto).

SHS Mentioned in Language Honors Article

Stevenson receives mention in this News-Sun article about Warren Township High School’s decision to offer the state Seal of Biliteracy program this year. The program honors seniors who have demonstrated in English and a second language. Stevenson implemented the program in the 2014-15 school year, with 147 students earning a seal on their diploma. Another 27 students received the Commendation of Biliteracy, which meant their proficiency level in a second language was lower than that required for a Seal of Biliteracy. Last year, 163 graduating seniors received the seal, demonstrating proficiency in Spanish, Chinese, French, German, Latin and Japanese. Additionally, 29 students received the Commendation of Biliteracy.
