Special Ed Parents, Guardians Invited to December 16 Meeting

Parents and guardians of Stevenson special education students are invited to a gathering sponsored by the Special Ed Parent Community Board at 7 p.m. next Tuesday in Room 2104. Dr. Rowena Mak, Director of Student Learning Programs, will talk about tutoring options available to students receiving Special Education services. Parents also will learn how they can help their student advocate for themselves to take advantage of tutoring services. PPA Seeks Adult, Student Volunteers for Saturday Book Fair

The Patriot Parent Association is looking for adult and student volunteers to help at its inaugural book fair at Barnes and Noble in Deer Park on Saturday. The event runs from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Adult volunteers are sought to assist with the welcome table, supervising gift wrap table, and general assistance. Students are needed for face-painting, gift-wrapping, and participating in one of the performances scheduled for the fair. Click here for details, and to sign up.

Fine Arts Concert, Fundraisers Today

The Winter Guitar Concert will be held at 7 p.m. tonight in the West Auditorium. Admission is free. Also today, there are two fundraisers involving Fine Arts Division programs. The band program is having a fundraiser at Go Roma in Lincolnshire from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., while the SHS Dance Connection wraps up its three-day fundraiser at Skinfo locations in Lincolnshire and Glencoe.

Madrigal Singers Roster Selected

Thirteen students have been selected to comprise the 2014-15 Madrigal Singers cast. The students chosen are: Marissa Abraham, Sarah Berkowitz, Talia Cheifetz, Maya Cohen, Abby Dutler, Samantha Fleishman, Mike Komarovsky, Anushka Nageswaran, Al-Sadiq Rahemtulla, Elisabeth Schmitt-Wagner, Noah Silver, Jake Singer and Claire Sullivan. The annual Madrigal Dinner will take place Sunday, March 22.

Girls Basketball

Stevenson 60, Warren 46: The host Patriots (8-0, 2-0) tied a school record by hitting 12 3-pointers for the second time this season. Sophia Way had four of the 3-pointers en route to leading all scorers with 18 points. Ashley Richardson also had four treys and 13 points. Taylor Buford also scored 13 points and sank a 3-pointer, and Janine Fajardo had 9 points on a trio of 3-pointers. The Blue Devils led 14-13 after one quarter, but SHS outscored them 37-18 over the next two quarters. – Daily Herald

Boys Bowling

Stevenson 9, Vernon Hills 0: Eddie Mendrala rolled a 614 series and Richy Zenner added a 600 at Brunswick Zone Hawthorn as the Patriots moved to 8-0. Mendrala had games of 216, 211 and 187, while Zenner posted scores of 206, 198 and 196. Michael Aranyi had the high game of the day, a 247, and also rolled a 218. SHS outscored the Cougars, 2,984-2,602.

Girls Bowling

Stevenson 9, Round Lake 0: Kaitlyn Rudy and Colleen VanDerMeulen led the host Patriots at Fairhaven Lanes. Rudy rolled a 653 series, with games of 230 (best of the match), 218 and 205. VanDerMeulen had a 626 series with games of 204, 184 and 175. Sam Szura added a 194 game for SHS, which outscored the Panthers, 2,576-1,761.

Carmichael Inducted into State Swimming, Diving Coaches Hall

Stevenson girls diving coach Don Carmichael was inducted into the Illinois Swimming and Diving Coaches Association Hall of Fame on Monday. Carmichael has been named the state’s top diving coach four times, in 1998, 2006, 2007 and 2009, and has coached two state champions: Jessie Mowrer (1998) and Kerrin Seymour (2006 and 2009). Carmichael has served as the school’s girls diving coach since 1985, and also was the boys diving coach from 1985-1998. In 2011, he was inducted into the Lake County High Schools Sports Hall of Fame.

Proviso West Basketball Tourney Brackets Announced

Stevenson’s boys basketball team will face New Trier or Providence St. Mel in the first round of the Proviso West Boys Holiday Basketball Invitational at 7 p.m. Monday, December 22. Tournament pairings were announced Tuesday. Click here to see the brackets.

CLUB NEWS

Relay for Life is meeting at Buffalo Grove High School at 6:30 tonight. We will be meeting in the Community Room. Please enter through Door 7 and follow the hallway signs to the room. If you would like information about the club, email cpfaffinger@d125.org.

Write Club meets after school today in Room 7018. The club features creative writing contests, poetry, fiction, college application essay help, and snacks.

The Speech and Drama Team meets at 3:45 Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays in the East ILC. Come and participate in one or more of 14 different events that span from humorous to dramatic acting, from prose and poetry to original speech writing, from impromptu and political speeches to radio broadcasts.

There will be another meeting for those interested in being a part of the leadership team for the second annual Fashion Show. We will meet in Room 1612 Thursday at 3:30. Hope to see you there!

Attention all members of Psychology Club: We will be meeting on Thursday in Room 2612 to watch Awakenings. The meeting will run from 3:45-5:30; all are welcome.
