SHS-BGHS Relay for Life Registration Still Open
The annual Relay for Life led by students from Stevenson and Buffalo Grove High Schools will be held June 14 at BGHS. Money raised during the all-night event will benefit the American Cancer Society. As of May 16, 259 people had formed 47 teams and raised more than $37,000. Registration is still open.

Director’s Workshop Set for Friday
More than 60 students enrolled in the Directing the Actor class will perform scenes from nearly two dozen plays throughout the school day Friday during the annual Director’s Workshop in the Studio Theatre (Room 2204).

Choral Guild Fundraiser With Malnati’s Next Week
The Choral Guild will have a fundraiser with Lou Malnati’s Pizzeria in Buffalo Grove on Tuesday. When dine-in, carryout and delivery orders are made using a special promotional flyer between 11 a.m. and 10 p.m., 20% of the total sale will go to the Choral Guild.

Boys Volleyball
Stevenson at IHSA Class 4A Highland Park Regional: No. 8 seed Buffalo Grove stunned the top-seeded Patriots, 25-19, 25-23, for the regional championship. SHS ended its season with a 31-5 record. Brad Tiller led the Pats with 14 kills, Brett Lerner had 11 and Aaron Zalewski added nine. Jonah May recorded 35 assists, had three kills and a solo block. – Daily Herald | statistics

Boys Lacrosse
Stevenson hosted IHSLA Playoff: The Patriots (14-4) beat Schaumburg, 13-6, in the first round of the Class A state playoffs, advancing to a second-round matchup with conference foe Libertyville at 5 p.m. Friday at LHS. The two teams met on April 24, with the Wildcats coming away with a 7-6 decision. – IHSLA.org

Boys Tennis State Tournament Starts Today
Stevenson’s boys tennis team begins play in the IHSA state tournament this morning, and has three highly seeded entries. Jeremy Bush, playing in his fourth state tournament, is a 3-4 seed in singles. He will face Jack Friend of Chicago’s F.W. Parker in the first round. The Patriot doubles teams of Pawel Jaworski-Josh Lieberman and Colin Harvey-Andrew Komarov are 5-8 seeds. Lieberman and Jaworski have a first-round matchup with Jonah Laktas and Chandler Stimpert of Morton. Komarov and Harvey take on Alex Riddle and Jackson Miller of York. Bush’s younger brother, Benjamin, is a 17-32 seed in singles. He will square off against Amit Iyer of Neuqua Valley. You can track Stevenson’s results here.

Boys Track and Field State Meet Preview
Seven members of the boys track and field team are heading to Eastern Illinois University in Charleston for the IHSA Class 3A meet, which begins Friday. The 3,200 relay team of Brendan Wood, Danny Gardiner, Jared Borowsky and Sammy Oh posted the second-fastest qualifying time among all entries (7:51.02), while Ki Hwan Kim had the sixth-best long jump mark (22-10.5). Borowsky also will run in the 1,600. Jordan Fobbe qualified in the shot put and discus, while Michael Dolan also will compete in the latter event. State meet results page

Softball, Baseball Regionals Rescheduled
The softball team’s regional semifinal game against Carmel was postponed by wet field conditions on Wednesday, and will be played today at 4:30 at Libertyville. The baseball regional semifinal against Rolling Meadows scheduled for today at Carmel has been moved to 4 p.m. Friday because the other semifinal was postponed on Wednesday and moved to today.

Like Father, Like Son in the Marchese Family
Today’s Daily Herald has an article about Joe Marchese, who has been invited to be a preferred walk-on for the University of Maryland football team. Marchese’s father made the University of Iowa football team 30 years ago as a walk-on.

STUDENT ANNOUNCEMENTS

Senior Party: Come by the Patriot Lobby Friday to sign up for your bus. Please note that you will need to talk to your friends and sign up together. It is a first-come, first-served sign up. If you don’t sign up for a bus you will be assigned to one. If you are not going, you must stop by the bus sign up and let us know. Please note however, the fee is non-refundable. Also note your ticket is non-transferable.

Volunteers are needed to help with the Transfer Students Program in the fall. Transfer Buddies help orientate new students to SHS by attending their orientation, showing them around school, and eating lunch with them the first week of school. If you are interested, sign up in any Student Services Office.

You are cordially invited to attend ArtFEST 2013, the annual all-school art show, today in the Field House.

Yearbook orders: All pre-ordered yearbooks can be picked up today during all lunch periods in the Patriot Lobby. Anyone who did not pre-order a book may purchase one from the Patriot Superstore. Extra yearbooks will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis and are available for $50.

iPad return will occur June 4-6 between the hours of 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the SMARTdesk in the Link Lab (Room 3014). Letters have gone home to explain the return protocol. Otherwise, head to 3014 with any questions.

CAREER EXPLORATION

Want to learn more about specific careers? Plan on attending the upcoming Career Days this week. Today is Computer and Technology Career Day, and Engineering Career Day is Friday. A variety of professionals will be presenting every class period in the Recital Hall. You must sign up in the College and Career Center if you plan on attending. Attention students interested in veterinary medicine: The Anti-Cruelty Society, along with the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine office, has a program aimed at high school students that will run from September 2013 through April 2014. Students must apply for this program by June 30. Please contact Mrs. Willock at dwillock@d125.org for more information and an application. Serious inquiries only, please.

Attention students interested in government, community service and business: The office of State Representative Carol Sente is seeking students for summer help in many different areas. Please contact Mrs. Willock at dwillock@d125.org for information regarding this program.

All girls interested in joining cross country this fall should attend an informational meeting next Wednesday in Room 2113 from 3:30-4:30 p.m. All new members and returning members are welcome! Please contact Coach LeVanti if you have any questions.

Chinese Club will have its end-of-year celebration on Thursday, May 30 at the Chef Ping Restaurant. The bus will leave at 3:40 p.m. and return around 6 p.m. If you are interested, join us!
